Leeds City Council is looking at cutting the age limit for private hire cars from eight to six years and drivers fear it could put many out of business.

Not so sure it will put many out of business, but it's a real stupid policy to bring in when the country is in such a dire financial mess.

Id agree...but mostly all Council officials being Birds in a gilded cage are so insulated from private sector woes and remote from the troubles that beset the nation that even though we know its a daft idea they think its a perfectly rational one.

Perhaps this is a good time to press for some EU funding to replace cars, instead of the government giving the manufacturers the billions of pounds they want to survive, they should give it to the taxi/PH trade to upgrade their vehicles, then every one wins.
They did it in europe, but we payed for that........

Instead of the government giving the Banks 200 billion just for them to sit on it and other large Businesses another 100 Billion just to postpone their inevitable bankruptcy and a further 150 Billion to the public sector in the name of boosting needless public spending schemes for more non jobs ..why not give every one in britain £20,000 each, every man woman and child and make sure they spend it in britain....it,ll cost the government half as much and it'll certainly kick start the economy, and after all its our bloody money and not the banks, public sector or Car manufacturers cash....this present government is full of Ignorant P*llocks...as we are each in Government created Debt to the tune of around £20,000 each why the hell cant we spend it by ourselves and on ourselves...??? Anyone fancy a new car?????

Well you know I do but I'm sitting tight and waiting to see what happens as so many have advised. In a perfect world I would be able to give up taxis and buy me a sparkly pink sporty job :D
