NONSENSE...whos going to abuse their car for five years rather than 10 years...doent matter if you intend changing cars every 2 years from new there is no savings to be made from Scrimping on decent servicing as the resulting lack of economy and reliabilty will cost you just as much if not more.....having said that if you aint the vehicles owner and working for peanuts your probably going to hash the guts out of any vehicle regardless of its age , milage or anything else..

There's a few around here that abuse their cars and we have an age limit.

Age policies in my view are a sign of inherent local authority failure in standards.

If the standards of test are high enough, the age limit is not needed.

well...maybe in these enlightened times neither age or milage should dictate what can and cant be Licensed...maybe it should be Emissions...or The latest Ncap ratings or any of a hundred other parameters that a LA may wish us to abide by.....

One things for sure we will never get all councils singing from the same hymn sheet no matter what our individual views on the matter are...

I dont disagree with you.

I think people seem to confuse restrictions with standards.....or is it vice versa?

....or maybe just a decent standard of inspection to ensure decent standard of vehicles, regardless of age.

I'm not quite sure about that one, perhaps we should invite him onto TDO for his comments, I'll leave that to skippy

You mentioned 2 standards (fair enough you were referring generally rather than specifically).

Emissions

IMO nothing more than a p*ss poor excuse to bring in a age limit, and one that is utterly useless against global warming. It makes a LA feel good, but unfortunately I don't think either you, me or any like minded person thinks policies should be decided by feeling good.

NCAP ratings

Okay, how many taxi journeys are there per year and how many result in the death of a passenger?

I know the bleeding heart will say well if we save one life that will suffice, well in my book its b*llocks, its another way of bringing in a feel good factor for complete dribbling idiots (is that controversial?)

I'm advocating councils making standards of testing and adhering to them.

Why should I change my cab, just because some idiot thinks its OK to run with bald tyres?

Whatever happened to catching these idiots and if not shooting them, suspending or revoking licenses?

sorry, it turned into a bit of a rant

Well its true.

I had an argument with a council the other day about a rank, 3000 actual journeys per month was mooted about a particular location, and the council stopped the rank because of a traffic issue?

How many accidents at the location involving taxis?

zero in 20 years!

ffs, were the professional drivers.

thats the problem...the Councils make issues where there is no Issues..and problems where there are no problems and they do so because half the bloody time they have nothing better to do...and the other half of the times its simply because they can...

it has to end this kind of nonsense before they make the Do'able un-Do'able and then we will all be stuffed...

I'm actually coming to the same conclusion, the people that govern us aren't interested, were an awkward inconvenience (and I could actually agree with that if I had to deal with Skippy everyday).

But being awkward and running a service ain't the same thing, we are government by idiots.

yup............they already have us at over Regulation Saturation point, we are drowing and dying from it and recent events only compound the fact that we cannot afford any more of it..be it from the EU or our own Uk government. sadly they cannot see it because they live in cloud cuckoo land the MPs and are shielded from the very misery they create..
