If they did, and the best practice guidance wont wont say that, as there would be next to no taxis left, rural areas don't have the same earning potential as you city dwellers.
And they would not be able to cope with some of our roads if you can call them that

Would that be for PH as well as HC?

After all PH are a transport service for the public & DO call themselves 'taxi', so why on earth should they be exempt?

Cos we are pre booked..you have the choice before you book as to what type of vehicle you require, so it follows that every vehicle in a PH fleet doesnt need to be a WAV and a WAV dispatched only if requested.

A taxi has to cater for bookings there and then.

No need for PH to have all WAVs as we can utilise fewer such vehicles better due to advance bookings..

You forgot to say that a PH operator can refuse any booking, or at least they can in England.

Also, if the DDA is truly an Act that makes discrimination an offence, then why should a wheelchair passenger that orders a PHV have to say that they are wheelchair bound?

Not having a full fleet of WAV PHVs will invariably cause some delay in despatching the booked vehicle & at busy times that delay could be construed as dicriminatory.

But then PH operators are not bound to accept bookings as per the LG(MP) Act 1976 & are at liberty to refuse to provide a vehicle.

Somewhere in all this the playing field is on a very big slope!

IMO having only one type of vehicle for immediate hire discrimates anyway against other users

Ive had several wheelchair users...and Dare I say it, they were quiet happy to use my saloon vehicles and transferring them and their wheelchair never proved any problem. In most instances a saloon is perfectly adequate. Maybe the common sense answer is to make it a legal requirement to politely ask the client at the point of booking if they have any special requirements that would merit the use of a WAV...not rocket science is it...and it would save billions of pounds for specialised vehicles which are almost never required....hell if it gets beyond our PH ability to take a booking for a wheelchair user we could always call upon the services of one of you wonderful WAV owning Hacks..

If it is of any help.... one of the things that has a big? over it..... is if a private hire company advertises itself as a taxi company.... and not private hire...

That would be very helpful if they banned PH using the word 'taxi' in any form of advertising whatsoever.

But, personally, I don't mind the term 'mini-cab'.

I don't think it's so much banning them from using the word taxi.... it more of the case if they use it they will have to provide a fleet of wheelchair accessible vehicles...

That wouldn't be a problem for the PH company I work for with them having so many HC's on their system. It's certainly a way forward for other PH companies

Oh well ..... that's going to be enforced isn't it ..... my ar*e!!

More lip service from the politicians to the gullable!

Make it an offence to use the word 'taxi' if you are PH & stop fudging the issue.

So all the drivers on the company will not mind changing to wheelchair accessible vehicles..
