why cant it be made it comes on when the turns the kay on.
Charles..... have you ever given thought to what could possibly happen if CCTV were made compulsory...... and you had to have it on all the time..... if you turned it off you would be committing an offence..... condition of licence..... then of course you would be providing evidence against yourself.... all those little things that happen in the day... stopping to get sweeties from the sweetshop.... double yellow lines... just catching that amber light..... telling an abusive passenger to go away quickly.... turkeys voting for Christmas springs to mind.

Absolutely, there is another way anyway, mobile phone on a vent cradle, nice big memory card and a cig lighter power supply to keep it powered, set to video mode and it should catch enough of enough.

I am not against CCTV, it should be the driver's choice whether or not he has it and when he has it on.

there is good and bad in most things, for the big part of this trade drivers or good hard working, i get a little fed up when police say the cctv not good , not pointing the right way, was no working. and just may be we would get rid of some of the drivers we realy dont need in this job.

Two Met Pc's received a complaint many years ago in the early 1990's when the first VasCar systems were installed in Traf Pol Cars.

The complainant, a well known local villain, claimed he had not been doing whatever speed they booked him for, and said the two Pc's were 'stitching' him up.

The Area Complaints unit looked through the whole tape and caught one Pc smoking (Disciplinary offence) and the other made a racist comment during a private conversation. (Big Disciplinary offence)

One was sacked for the comment. One was stuck on for not challenging the other one (and smoking), the crook who was done for excess speed still got done for excess speed.

No cameras in my cab. Ever.

Charlie... as you know I was a trade rep in Sefton for a good many years, I was one of the people who applied for CCTV in taxis.... and was also the person who went head-to-head with the legal department when they wanted to remove the visual monitors from the driver's compartment... which ended up with Sefton taking legal advice from two very senior barristers... and that was nine years ago... in all the time I was a trade rap I was never given the remit to place the trade in a position which would result in drivers being prosecuted.... drivers get prosecuted under conditions of licence..... The point being when CCTV is made compulsory, they have you over a barrel....PS... and I don't think it's legal for them to make it compulsory....

I don't think it's just a case of whether drivers will end up worse off. I think everybody has to weigh the pro's and con's to see whether or not it would suit them. This is why it should not be made complusory IMO :D
