I don't give a shi* one way or the other. Perhaps you could explain to everyone, how, what you are doing, is so different?

Passenger: "take me from here, to here". :roll:

Exactly !!! Although the word "Taxi" is an oft-quoted misnomer, the correct term in relation to a vehicle which can legally ply for hire is "HACKNEY CARRIAGE "
The word "taxi" is an abbreviation of the word "taximeter" which was originally derived from the Latin "taxis or taxes" (meaning to charge) and "metre or meter"( meaning to measure distance) Originally used on horse-drawn cabs, this unfortunately contentious four letter word has proved to be a constant thorn in the side of the pedantic, discontented, disenchanted, maladjusted, socially inadequate members of the Hackney Carriage Trade when being used by anyone other than themselves. eusasmiles.zip eusasmiles.zip eusasmiles.zip
The bottom line is that theoretically and realistically, nobody has the exclusive right to use the word "taxi". :lol: :lol: :lol:

Of course according to the most recent act of parliament the 2010 Equality act, a 'taxi' is a Hackney Carriage;

Hackneys became Taxis in 1907. That year it became compulsory to fit a taximeter, named after its inventor; Baron Von Thurn and Taxis, a family name which still exist (google it) or click link below

Mt firm runs an all Hackney fleet so we cqall it Premier cabs but whenever you are dealing with people over the phone such as yellow pages or suppliers they always refer to us as premier cars and are totally phased when you try and correct them !

The fact is that the only people who understand the difference are cabbies and perhaps a few ph drivers :wink:
