I think that as the PH there have meters fitted the council may force them to get them sealed and with the same tariff as the hacks this would stop the unfair advantage in fare prices and have a level playing field

In an ideal world It would be better if PH all over the UK had them fitted and sealed to there local council tariffs

Where does it say that a PH Op should give a price on each job :? We don't charge for waiting in traffic as such which is why we are cheaper than HC's. We do however charge for waiting time if, for example, the bridge is up and the customer chooses to wait rather than go the other way, and that's at 20p per min.

We do have some vehicles with meters that are set to clock up time in traffic and it does cause problems especially with the regular customers, but, the drivers usually just use the trip meter and the tariff card in these cases. We have the same problem with HC's that use their meters to over charge customers on our system

The contract a PH customer has is with the PH Operator.

I'm aware of that. Your point :?

We have to display our tariff card so the customer can see it so they know how much it is by the mile or part thereof.

then the driver presses a button and suddenly the price is higher and that's what I have to pay. I'd like to know what that button is, if anybody knows?

By law HC have to display a tariff, PH do not "HAVE TO" but some companies no doubt do so.

When I stop, before I can push the stop button the fare can go up because at any speed under (I think 6mph but could be wrong) the minimum, time and not distance is charged. This may then look as if I have "bumped the fare up".

Personally I always subtract this last jump when it happens, but be clear, I do not have to.

I see, you want my point......the point was that if the contract is with the PH operator, it is ultimately up to the operator to determine the cost of the contract ffs.

Well its about time the law was changed the contract can still be with the operator, but the punter pays whats on the meter that would simplify things

ffs.....the tarrif card means f*ck all with you lot because as youve already said, youve vehicles with meteres, vehicles without meteres and HC's who rip off everyone.......which they dont, its just that some folks cannot afford Hackney Carriages, they're called poor people who are just affluent enough to put themselves above the bus as a form of transportation.

I seriously think PH on the wirral should be called poor peoples chariots.

Skippy, make your views known to your MP. 163 years since the 1847 and 34 since the 1976.

Parliament are surely over due to sort it all out.

I won't hold my breath....

By the way my wife is a drug dealer......

She works in a Pharmacy....

Can I get her to get you anything?

Skip its not a valid point.

A PH company by its very being can set its own fares, just like skippy taxis can (although your HC and can only charge lower than the prescribed fare).

Are you suggesting Limos and executive hire should have meters?

PH encompasses a lot more than the HC.
