What standards can you put in place that would see a prospective driver having to wait 6+ months before getting a license, other than a delay in the return of their CRB

Literacy tests, numeracy tests, DSA taxi test, Equalities training, WAV training, proper knowledge test including routes with a high pass mark.

And no doubt a couple of things that I can recollect at present.

Mmmm....... so you're happy to see prospective drivers priced out of the market?

If the alternative is a poor standard of driver then yes.

If you want your manor flooded with part timers, or folks made redundant, then so be it.

But the harder to get into my manor the better.

Nobody wants their manor flooded with part timers, folks made redundant or anybody for that matter, but, part timers and those with redundancy pay outs are the ones most likely to be able to pay their way into the trade. It's wrong to use finances as a method to restrict entry into the trade imo

Judging by some of the comments throughout TDO it would appear that some of the current members of the trade could do with the same tests. Would you agree that if the standards are improved for new drivers they should be implemented for current drivers?

No, but with the reservation that those found "wanting" can be forced into undertaking training. I would suggest that the quasi-judicial committees and not Licensing Officers should judge whether such training would be beneficial.

As you know sussex, my son is doing the brief and working full time as well and so far it has taken him over 6 months! IMO thats how it should be, then we might get the same standards over the whole country instead of just a few places like Brighton.

You won't even have the same standards in Brighton if ALL the drivers have not completed the same brief
