By doing it myself I mean sending the form off with payment to the CRB people. At the moment I fill in the form and give it to the LA along with the payment, they then stick it in an envelope and send it to the relevant body, which they charge for. By sending it myself I avoid the councils levy.

This is the bit that the council may not allow. By sending it yourself, the council will not get a copy directly so they may not accept it.

It may have been £36 last time, I knew it was around the £30 mark - still it's a bit of a hike, 50% increase in three years. And wasn't there a thread that mentioned LA's can't ask for enhanced CRBs for cabbies ? I notice the form I've been given to fill in doesn't say whether it's an enhanced or standard check, previous forms have said 'enhanced' at the top, so I don't know which it is.

All council Chief Execs have been written to by the CRB folks telling them that for normal run of the mill taxi/PH work they have no powers to request an enhanced CRB check.

The form I've been given just says 'Application Form' at the top, no mention of whether it is for an enhanced or standard check - how can I tell ? The last one had something like 'Application for an Enhanced CRB'. Other than that and some mention of registering with the ISA I can see no diiference between this form and the previous one.

I notice the last page is to be filled in by the Registered Authority (the LA) so you may be right grandad.

Isn't the ISA now defunct? It may be an old form or the wrong form.

I don't know, just going off what the form says. First line reads ' This form can be used to apply for a CRB check and/or to register with the Independant Safeguarding Authority (ISA).'

Renewed badge today, asked licensing if I was paying for an enhanced or standard check (as the form doesn't say which) and was told it is an ENHANCED check. I mentioned the court case and the CRB letter and said they could only ask for a standard check. Their reply was that they were aware of all that and were appealing against it, until then they will still ask for enhanced checks, powers or not :?

Love the civil servant speak.

Don't know, but know enough to appeal against what they don't know. ](*,)
