Sounds a good jolly to keep tabs on where the driver is at any particular time? Bit dodgy in the wrong hands!

I think it's an excellent idea.... sometimes I think people just like to find fault

It's not a question of finding fault. late night punters don't even know or care if the car they are getting in is a taxi, private hire or any old car. So you tell me if they are going to pay for an app and put the registration number in. At 3.00 on a Sunday morning by the time they have loaded the app someone else will be in the car.

You're probably right they wouldn't pay for it, but, it's free. The type of person that will use this application will be somebody who does care what vehicle they get into. If it became the subject of abuse then it will need looking at. So long as the app does not give out personal information about the driver I don't see a problem

What is wrong in just looking for the plates and drivers badge?

There's nothing wrong with just looking for the plate and the badge. There is also nothing wrong with this app so long as it doesn't divulge personal info. I'm happy for them to use the app if it makes them feel safer and more inclined to use taxis/ph instead of ringing 'mum & dad taxi services'

Didn't we have a discussion about this a while back, and the general consensus was on what basis could a council share our details, even just registration details.

Clearly our data doesn't matter in Worthing.

Oh look who just got a fork shoved up his rectum.

Perfect thread, it demonstrates just who you are and what your intent is doesn't it.

I think this is a great idea, but I'm a HC, Sussex although being a Justice of the Peace PHC owner lawman doesn't??????????????????????????????????????

Oh I wonder why?????????????????????

Could it be that the public could be made aware the bloke who agreed to being free isn't licenced.

Like I've always said, you can dress up posh in a designer suit but if you are tatty you will make the suit look that way also.

Funny how when your own council complies with the law you don't like it Doom, but when another council doesn't comply you do!

So basically you seem to think everyone should just adhere to the rules that they like, and to hell with the rest. No wonder the country's in such a state.

Oh, I forgot, it's Tuesday night

No, I said you (Doom) was Sussex's sockpuppet, ie someone he made up to support his case.

In fact you would be a 'strawman sockpuppet', because the arguments he makes up for you are just completely ludicrous so he can knock easily knock them down.

Well the idea of strawman glovepuppet is for a false ID to make a ridiculous argument so as to make the originator seem like he's the voice of reason and knows all the answers.

So suppose Doom creates a sockpuppet - the sockpuppet would say what a good idea restricted numbers is, what a load of schecht Sussex and Dusty speak, and what a hero and all round good guy Doom is. :D

But if Doom created a strawman sockpuppet, the sockpuppet might say restricted numbers were bad because all sum HC plateholders were evil **** scum paedophiles who should be burnt at the stake, which of course Doom would gleefully refute, and such ridiculous arguments would damage the anti-restricted numbers cause.

Anyway, I was just having a giggle, as I assume you were when you were accusing Sussex of creating Dusty as a sockpuppet.

Dust, are you sure it isn't you whose been on the sauce tonight?

I'm a plate holder, I don't back Sussex up at all, why would I, and as for me being his target practice I quite often put a stronger case than he does anyway, like the other day when he tried to make a spec of dust town into a county to make his version more credible, bloke doesn't have a clue about anything really, he's a cabbie that plays at the game, you know he isn't dependent on it for an income and has for the last god knows how many years tried his hardest to make every HC look like the biggest [edited by admin] in the world purely because he wants a saloon hack and Brighton council have told him to feckoff, the man might have a good brain legally, but as a business man he's got a 45 pointed at his temple and keeps trying to squeeze the trigger, only once he does release the hammer will he know how wrong he got it all these years, but thats what happens when you dip your toe in and cash in a bit later, he only sees the public transport side of things from a PH angle, having had 11 years PH and 14 years HC I think I've kinda got a bit more of a balanced idea about both than he does, experience is king, and as he drives days and only does PH he hasn't really got anymore experience than saying hello luv where would you like to go, lemme help you with your bags, if you were to do the % it would stack up he has about 25% knowledge of what the job is really about, oh and I forgot to mention I've also operated and nearly bought 3 firms in my time, as I am a savvy individual I backed out on two dead horses and the third was out of my hands as someone else who I didn't want, wanted in and I would've had to carry his lame ass, something I wasn't prepared to do, now I need 100 cars just like that to make a profitable firm @ £50pw each to undercut the ass out of the undercutting current lot who ask £135pw for a radio alone, that right now is out of the question due to lack of business and quality drivers because I'm not having tom tom fanatics working for me, I only want common sense driven individuals and they are rarer than rocking horse muck these days, and that's before trying to find radio staff who won't feed drivers, I've seen every angle, know every stroke, had every substance abuser to deal with in a city with a rep for trouble, what does he deal with, sober people from a town where 99% of the folks are still decent and affluent, he's a parallel to George Osbourne infact, full of blinkered vision and no thought to what his actions will do to others, or another way of putting it a selfish I'm alright Jack type, I copuld be wrong but I can smell Eliteism from a mile away.

His day is done anyway, all those he thinks listen to him are infact sick of him and can read his motives like a book, that's why Brighton council doesn't dance to his tune.

So three hours later and basically all that means is that you now agree that I'm not Sussex.

Am I Safe taxi app introduced in Worthing

So the driver has to say "mind if I pull over and check my emails?" or if they meant text "keep an eye on the road for me - I just want to read my texts!"

Why the need to pull over :? Surely the vehicle will be stationary so the passenger can actually get in to it :D

The driver will have already driven off with the next person in the queue before the app has loaded.

'Am I Safe?' free mobile phone app launches in Wycombe -check your cab is licensed

Source: Wycombe Council

Am I Safe? is a free mobile phone application being rolled out by the Nightsafe partnership in Wycombe district in time for the festive period. In the lead up to Christmas, more people use private hire vehicles and taxis to get home from nights out. The Am I Safe? system answers the question Am I Safe, getting into this vehicle? or, from the driver's point of view, Am I safe, with these passengers in my vehicle?

Now live and running locally in this area, the app is designed to improve the safety of passengers and drivers of taxis and private hire vehicles in the Wycombe District. The Am I Safe? application is free and available for anyone to use.

Accessible on any Smartphone (iPhone, Android or BlackBerry) the 'Am I Safe?' app allows you to enter the registration number of the taxi/minicab you are about to get in to, and it will tell you whether the vehicle is licensed or not and the type of licence it holds - either a private hire which is bookable only or a taxi which you can hail on the street.

'Am I Safe?'then creates a footprint of the registration search you make and stores the time, location, registration, and your username - making you traceable quickly if something were to happen. It can also send a copy of this information to your nominated friends and family by email if you want it to.

At the same time, the licensed driver (assuming he or she is registered) will get an email with your username only, so they know that if anything happens to them (or you) the journey is traceable.

The 'Am I Safe?' service is free to use, it™s traceable and makes people accountable. It can help to protect people from the risks of taking an unlicensed cab. The service also helps the council, as the licensing authority to help to track down unlicensed vehicles and investigate any problems.

Unlike most mobile apps, 'Am I Safe?' is web-based and can be accessed via any smartphone simply by visiting www.amisafe.co.uk on your mobile. Like a traditional app, you can add a button or bookmark to this app on your mobile phone navigation screen.
