By the way, what were the circumstances of the hiring - was this a Hackney Carriage secured in a public place and the marshall had no direct connection with the driver and/or the taxi office in question?

Thanks for the input people. This was a PH from the company office with a marshall employed by the company.

Thanks for that - thought it might not be a publicly hired HC, although clearly because of the terminology used most/all of us on here initially assumed that a 'taxi marshall' related to an on-street hiring and would thus only have an indirect relationship with the driver, hence the potential for confusion over the fare.

But if it's a case of a mis-stated destination then clearly that's an equally compelling explanation for the situation that arose.

TBH I think the mother has a point.....but thats a stone cold sober point.....unlike her child.

The driver had an issue the moment the fare was going to be more than the bouncer (and thats all they are) gave an approximate fare......the case for CCTV with voice is obvious here. From what MrPH tells us there can be no doubt cast upom the driver.....he was licensed and I would add, probably unlucky to get this job.....because no doubt, if he knew the outcome there is little doubt he would have not have accepted the fare.

Who's to blame?

Maybe the bouncer.......thats if the punters were being honest.....which tells me perhaps the punters gave the name of a village and he quoted to the centre....not the surrounding district.

Probably the customer......for not giving the 'via's' to the bouncer.

Not the driver, who has a exemplary record.

As for the police

ffs
