I think the paying tax argument with respect to voting age is a bit of a red herring, because you could be paying tax at any age, it's just that the vast majority don't start having a taxable income until they're in work.

But if a 15-year-old computer whizzkid was making a fortune out of some idea they had then I don't see why they shouldn't be paying tax on it.

But otherwise I tend to agree with your argument in principle.

I suspect the 'adults' advocating the lowering of the voting age are the ones who never grew up themselves

Or maybe they were mature beyond their years when they were 16, but didn't realise how immature the rest of us were at that age

Dont forget that the min wage is dire for a teenager in work
•£6.08 - the main rate for workers aged 21 and over
•£4.98 - the 18-20 rate
•£3.68 - the 16-17 rate for workers above school leaving age but under 18
•£2.60 - the apprentice rate, for apprentices under 19 or 19 or over and in the first year of their apprenticeship

If they can do the same job as an over 21 years old adult they should be paid the same.
And the apprentice rate is even more dire no wonder hardly any teens take one up
