The parents want better trained drivers but cheaper costs, how will that work then?

The best all round system is for the parents to take their kids to school like the rest of us.

These people should be delighted that the tax-payer is paying to take them to school, but typical of this chav society they want for free more and more.

Amen to that.

the ones taking the pee arent chavs! i get more respect and gratitude off a single parent than another obviously minted

not all the special needs schools are easy to get too and not all parents have cars or the schools are nowhere near a bus route

Basically if a child has an special educational need and a placement is agreed by the county education, the parent MAY apply for help with transport, most counties will offer a mileage payment if parents wish to take children themselves, I know of no area that doesnt use a tendering system to get the lowest prices possible, if that gets a poor service then maybe thats the reason!

Some DO have escorts, if the need is agreed, but when I heard a Leics CC staff member say a pupil was judged to need an escort only after the contract was awarded and "we will happily pay an extra £2.50 each way" I decided me and them were not on the same wavelength...

I think what Sussex means isn't the disabled kid or the slow learning one, he means the orrible little crunt that no school can afford to have in class disrupting the other kids education.

Of that, £31,900 was spent by Kent County Council [KCC] on school transport to ferry just one child to and from Sevenoaks to Lewes in East Sussex.

35 mile twice a day, 5 days a week (or 191 day school year) = £162/day or £2/mile (ish)

must be a WAV job with escort

It may also be a whole year contract and not just school term times. So with the escort I would say that it is a bargain and should cost more.

i myself was awarded a 12 month sen school contract without escort ! its 1 child ,it stated the child had language and communication problems so i thought it wouldnt be to much of a problem ! how wrong was i ,the alarm bells started ringing when the council rung me to confirm the vehicle to be used had a safety partion which it as ,met the parents etc a few days before school started and all seemed fine and they never mentioned any previous problems with the child going to school ,1st day wasnt to bad a lot of screaming etc then the problems begun ,the screaming become none stop ,i was pulled up at traffic lights and quick as a flash the little b####r had undone the seatbelt and had whacked me around the head my own fault as i had opened the partion to talk to the child when they were screaming to try and calm the child down ,lesson learnt partion stays shut ,rung council to explain there was more to this child than they had explained ,there answer was to fit a seatbelt lock which they supplied ,the child had this lock undone in seconds and thrown across cab but thankfully the seatbelt has remained on since, there fave new trick now is to remove shoes and throw them at the safety partion while screaming at a ear piercing screach ,back onto the council ,this contract needs a escort ASAP as i dont have any school escorts as ive never had a contract in the past that needed 1 you will have to find a operator with a escort as you awarded contract without escort and thats why i agreed to do it ,council ! can you keep doing it while we make enquires ,ok i say get back to me ASAP ,I then make my own enquries with the school and the other drivers at the school who took this child before ,i find out im the 5th taxi who as transported them to school in 2years all the others have either had the child removed from there run or handed the contract back ,im then told the child wont travel with other children and as attacked the escorts and drivers this is why they are now travelling alone in a vehicle with a safety partion ,the council have since sweet talked me into carrying on with it as i believe im the last chance saloon ,ive made my concerns well known to the council and school and the parents ,if this contract had been advertised correctly in the 1st place i wouldnt of tendered for it #-o

far from being a mug trotskys twin ,if this contract was advertised correct it would of never been taken on in the 1st place ,now i dont about your manor trotskys twin but in my manor the rank work as died a death and the p/h arnt fairing much better either ,but im in a catch 22 situation if i hand the contract back on 7 days notice how quick do you think the council will be in offering out a new school contract :doubt: :?: ,if i could replace the work straight away and suffer no loss the contract would be gone ,as rightly been stated most contracts are good work or otherwise we wouldnt do them ,so when this contract as run its course one will not be tendering for s.e.n work again ,if parents want us to be escorts, first aiders ,guards, then they should seek alternative transport because theres no way councils will pay the extra dollar for the expertise required to transport these kids its usually lowest bid wins despite what the council say and dont forget theres a huge differance between school contracts and s.e.n school contracts #-o
