I wonder if the sudden realisation about licensing fees has anything to do with the Guildford case and other rumblings?

I would hope so.

But I'm sure according to their accounts after legal fees and consultancy fees it costs £800000 a year to license taxis

Plus quite a few staff on excess of 35K - not a bad salary down here.

How do they warrant paying that sort of salary within a Council for pushing pens?

Because up till now drivers were taking it up the rear, however it appears Mr Apathy has left the building.

Well done to them. =D>

How many of you on here know how much your pen-pushers are getting paid?

Not really! Our licensing fees did not seem a lot different to many others, so questions tend not to get asked.

The bottom line is that they are not supposed to make an excess!! But, we do know as to how easy it is for that to happen................just create jobs - highly paid jobs......and hey ho - no surplus/excess. Our position up until this moment was probably no different to anyone else.

The actual costs of licensing fees might have been let go, but as you say taxi numbers had doubled then the total income must have also increased. That amount should have been addressed.

I suspect over the last few years the trade have spent all their time trying to get the council to restrict, and not wanting to upset the council allowed the amount of fees to swell unopposed.
