No they are money pits !!!! Why should taxpayers money be poured into them whilst the huge profits are made by the city financiers who buy and sell oil cargoes on their way to the refineries

Its a bit difficult to turn the oil you get from the ground into the stuff you put into your tank and engine - the country needs refineries - without them your fuel wont work :roll:

you misunderstood my point the refining stage of the operation is the least profitable which is why we have gone from 15 refineries to just 6 in the last 20 years it is uneconomic to refine it in the UK which is why grangemouth and probably lindsey will [edited by admin] soon why not refine it in the middle east where it comes out of the ground using cheap foreign labour and bring it to the Uk as finished product that might keep the price down if you bring the oil refineries under state control it could add 10p a litre onto the price of the diesel so that a few priveledged refinery workers can earn £1000 a week after the unions have taken the government to the cleaners

personally I think its a tad foolish having to rely on foreign powers to refine our fuel - heaven forbid they decide to stop selling it to us because we're at was with them........or decide to put the price up :roll:

Blame Unite mate,

1. It's not 1973 any more;
2. Ineos is a private company, not a state-owned monolith with taxpayers cash to throw around;
3. If shareholders find they're not getting a return on their investment of their money, they can, and will, take it elsewhere hence why they're shutting it down.

Gus you know what will happen now the Scottish government will be left with having to bring in an even more hard nosed company probably chinese to take the complex on probably only 75% of the workers will be offered their jobs back at 90% or less of their original salaries because once it has closed and the workers are redundant TUPE won't apply.

Nidge won't be celebrating nor will I the knock on effect of that plant closing will hit more than 800 directly employed it will hit the companies supplying services to the complex the companies providing transport and the job losses probably won't be confined to Scotland

The point is trade unions have to learn to see past their own ambitions and embrace what is the whole picture a lesson sadly not learned from the destruction of the coal industry which would have been much bigger today had Scargill tried to see the bigger picture

I sure am, it couldn't have happened to a finer bunch. I will only give sympathy to those who opposed the strike. For those who supported action they are fools and deserve to suffer. I hope that their kids remind them of this over the forthcoming festive period.

When the Ineos employees get £11K a year in shift allowance yet they can't lose a little Unite deserve everything they got.

Sorry to the people who are losing their jobs but I have no sympathy with them for believing union shop stewards and other officials who said that the plant would not be closed and that they could win the battle by refusing to sign up to new terms and conditions.
