Now that is a very fair point. However, and I have stated this many times before, cabbies work against their own interests because they are thick. You've been there CC, just like me, it's ignorance and stupidity the enslaves your average cabby, not app technology.

Les is on here crying into his handkerchief because he has nothing to fightback with to keep his job and his "members" company from going under. When the truth is, he has all the tools at his disposal he needs but hasn't got a fu*king clue how to use them. It's still about him and his entourage and not the bigger picture.

Surely they agree that cheaper apps are the future and can begin closing down the offices reducing overheads.

I'd be pleased to hear they have a business strategy to protect their members as app booking takes over and telephone bookings diminish and all their business relies on Cordic!

Well they are here, lets see what the next few months bring in.
Edinburgh taxi users will benefit tremendously if the black cabs take to the new app.
The new app has the chance of bringing all the black cabs of Edinburgh under one roof which has been avoided for years.

I am not blowing the trumpet for the app technology or GetTaxi you can read that for yourself, but the potential of having a 1000 black taxis under one roof is providing a service for Edinburgh and a strong contender against the likes of Uber.

I do back local business....my taxi. I will use whatever service is provided to make a living whether it be the street, a local company or digital hail (app).

7/12s=just over £50 a week to me, the same again for my driver, just over £100 a week all in, I get the best of everything, App included, a very big VFM, I've never had it so good, even the drags of yesteryears are much less, talking of yesteryears the trade changes year in year out, I say you've been out the game too long Gary

Les is on here moaning, and rightly so, because the press are giving free publicity to the global apps as opposed to Edinburgh's own - and I think he has a valid point - they are giving the hype that the new 'outside' apps are something on a technology first - whereas the truth is different.

However, I maintain my own position, that apps are more of a immediate threat to private hire than humble cab drivers like me - and I'll be f*cked if I'll fight a ph battle for private hire operators.

Oh and there's a very good reason the press don't print stories emanating from the field of turnips that you call a taxi trade. Maybe it has something to do with not talking to committeemen that represent business models that are soon to become extinct?

You cannot compare these global technology companies to traditional co-operative taxi companies operating obsolete business models. It's like comparing apples and bananas.
