If this is not personal and IF this is what they say it is all about..........then all Teacher/Nursery school personnel should be at the front of the queue for this course.

If the council feel that it is taxi drivers who need to go on this course, then it is their system that is failing, as is the case with most LA's/councils in treating the job in such a derisory manner.

Teachers/nursery staff and medical staff are already made aware of tell tale signs. Clearly their system is failing otherwise we wouldn't be reading about 1400+ children being abused. I don't understand the resistance to these courses, nor do I understand why drivers think that they are under suspicion of wrong doing

My resistance to these courses, as you phrase it Toots, are;

1) I have better things to do with my time, like earning a living.

2) I would in all probability have to pay for the course.

3) what could I learn from the experience? That giving drugs and alcohol to vulnerable children is a no no?

Courses or 'child sex abuse prevention sessions' doesn't matter really. It'll probably be all of a day long at most and I wouldn't mind sitting there learning about tell tale signs if it helps to prevent just one case or none for that matter. I, like you, would be reluctant to pay for it as I feel it's a council responsibility to finance such a course and I guess it depends on how good the course provider is or how much you already know about the signs of child sex abuse as to whether you will learn anything, of course it will also depend on how much you listen to what's being said as well. It seems to me that you think it will tell you what you should and shouldn't be doing with children rather than it's intention of showing you some of the possible signs that a child is being abused.

Do you see any other occupation/profession mentioned? As for teachers & nursery staff! Whilst they might possibly have been made aware.....they as you allude have failed. In my opinion they having failed, should be at the top of the pile. Until that or something similar happens I consider it a slight on the trade. Also consider drivers who do not do contract work and also those who do nights only.......should they have any reason to do a lecture course? Also consider a driver going on one of these courses.........and then making a wrongful accusation! Of course they will stand by that driver...........wont they :?

Drivers will not be expected to make any accusations. They will be asked to report any concerns to the relevant authority. This would also include night drivers who may be asked to carry teenagers who may fall into the category.
This will be a call for us drivers to try and help the authorities to stop abuse by anyone. Something that we should all want to do.

And these "signs of abuse". Surely should be recognised by the parent, the teacher, the social worker, the police officer, all of the above, professionals in their field, if a social worker, ( with a degree, and years of training,)fail to spot abuse, what chance has the average taxi driver got after a one day lecture? If I had wanted to be a social worker, or a cop, or a teacher, I would have applied for the job.

I can see it now. A driver tells ( who, exactly?) that they think child A is being abused. Well, I'll leave you to fill in the next bit....

What next, how to spot a jihadist? How to tell if a passenger is ill? How to deliver a baby? How to put out a house fire? How to stop a Nuclear reactor going into meltdown? No need!

You're so negative ffs. How do you know what has or has not been suggested for other professions? From what I read it was what they think is relevant for drivers. When this all came out everybody was saying how bad it was and what are they going to do in the future to help prevent it. Nobody is saying it is a cure all but surely if it prevents just one child having to go through the same thing it's worth the effort. With regard to the night drivers do you think child sex abuse only happens in the daytime hours, think outside the box, stop taking it so personal and stop finger pointing. If it helps it's worth it and if it doesn't it took a day out of your life. I've never read such negative, insensitive clap trap in my life. These are children ffs it's society that should help to safeguard them you can't trust it to the council as has been proven, what would you think if one of your own was being ferried about in a taxi and the driver didn't even know what was going on cos he wasn't aware of telltale signs.

You are assuming that the child is already "in the system". Not all abused kids are "in the system". Many are abused by members of their own family and do not know that the treatment they are getting is wrong.
Ask yourselves this question. When you were growing up and were under 16, did you ever engage in any activity with another under 16 year old that you found enjoyable? Follow this with what you would now think if it were a 30 or 40 something adult doing exactly what you did as a teenager. Would you consider this to be any different?

Having a bad day are we Toots!

No negativity on my part. I just do NOT see any other occupation/profession being targeted.

Re night drivers do you honestly think that they are going to be driving children on their own as in the daytime?any children that I have ever picked up have ALWAYS been with an adult. With regards to the tell tale signs, you can only ever guess, unless it is a blatant hand holding exercise as was the guy (I think in Thailand). If teachers are not spotting it 6/7 hours a day 5 days a week - do you honestly think that drivers are going to do better in the 10/15 minutes that they are in the car/cab with them.

I like to think that I can spot something wrong a mile away, on that basis I do not need to be chucked into the pot and told by some spotty faced upstart what I have already learnt from life. Toots you need to realise that no matter how highly educated people are ( and they are the ones who have missed all of the apparent tell tale signs) then a lecture/course is not going to solve the problem.

That's right toots you cannot trust the council.....Oh sorry! Who is proposing the course?

Yes of course you are right! I guess when a solicitor asks who made the accusation/observation? then there will be no passing the buck or pointing the finger #-o

If the authorities/government got their house in order and started looking after the population instead of themselves, then there would not be so many broken homes/families caused by destitution adding to the problem. Make no mistake this is a problem that has come down through the ages, through broken homes, runaways, drop outs etc. In order to be seen to be doing something the authorities are now saying .....taxi drivers are now having to go on courses - "We are doing our best honest" will come the cry #-o

It makes me laugh wryly when I think of all of the taxi drivers who have been involved in child abuse - are now going to be shown what signs people will be looking for #-o

I agree with all that has been written by Jimbo and Cabby John and Gus.

Just google 'teacher has affair with pupil' or 'Little Teds Plymouth'......these f*ckers are far more prolific sex offenders and abusers of childrens than taxi drivers.

I think part of every council doesn't want to think that such happenings at schools are possible - teachers and nursery assistants are positions of trust and in the general scheme of things its the taxi driver who is looked upon as a piece of sh*t in the hierarchy of occupations.
