at least one good thing will come out of it it will get rid of miniscab drivers for good as there will be no one driving for them ie miniscab offices will close as the drivers will do the knowledge and thats good for me

I'm not that sure many of your fellow cabbies will share that view.

But if you are prepared to allow new six week KOL drivers to share your ranks, then welcome to the 21st century. =D>

no i dont agree if it gets rid of miniscab drivers iam happy with that as there will be no miniscab companys around and they will all go to the wall and that means more work but the best thing is i hope they bring in the 6 week k and say they try it for a year and lets hope all the miniscab firms go under and then pco put a stop to the six week k as there were to many complaints from the public thats the way forward roll on thanxxxxxxxxx later smudger

I think the main difference with the minicab companies is that they wouldn't go to the wall but instead would be full of drivers with green badges

It all seems daft to me why have to do the knowledge test when there is sat nav available and yes they let you go south of the river GBC
There is also a new thing on the market where the map of the rout is sent to the cab and is displayed on a screen with voice directions
let the pco get round that

Perhaps they should let those doing the KOL work whilst doing it with the help of sat-nav, as the lad in Bournemouth suggested in a recent Press Cuttings Monthly.

But then Bournemouth is a restricted manor (at present) and the owners want bundles more drivers, yet the smoke is un-restricted thus they want as few new drivers as possible. :-$

How many time must we have this discusion? I have had and used Sat-nav for ages. It can never replace the KOL. It will not tell you where a point is such as. 'The in & out driver please'. Show me a Sat-nav that knows where this is? No! not the old one but the new one...

The Knowledge will not be replaced by Sat Nav, soory to dissapoint any lazy [edited by admin] out there who think they were onto a fast buck.

The Knowledge is not just about learning the streets of London, and all the buildings on them, it about building a knowledge of where all the buses get jammed, what times the bin lorries are on certain roads, u turns that save you 10 minutes, the history behind the 'points', but most of all the immense sense of pride of having completed the 2 - 3 year course and the knowledge you, and you alone have earned your living.
The Knowledge makes you a Cabbie, filling out two forms does'nt.

Thats why London Cabbies like myself and Mcdehack make a career out of the London Taxi trade, opposed to Ollie who will be here today and gone tomorrow, or do it until a better job comes along, or view it as a part time number every Friday and Saturday night.

This was confimed on LBC yesterday at 0945, by Red Ken who stated and repeated NO changes to the process were planned as he was happy with the current situation, he also made it clear it not so many words, he was not overly impressed with the Hulme Cross report for concentrating on the one aspect of the PCO everyone was happy with, well apart from LTI.

So for all the ' Ollie ' crew who have been up the M & O since the report came out planning their new taxi packages, take a trip to your local moped dealer first.

You might be better going to the local cycle dealer though Ollie, help you shift a bit of that belly.

Is this the prelude to a "have taxi drivers got bigger bellies than PH" thread
