But Labour councillor Jackie O’Quinn, who chairs the council’s Licensing Committee, said: “The market is too full.”

Possibly a good example of what Sussex was saying the other day - is there any relevance in legal terms to what the chairperson said with regard to an operator's application?

And can't recall all the earlier stuff, but is it even legal to insist that cross-border drivers can't be used?

Anyway, looks like that's all academic now, but not sure whether the locals-only condition was a factor here, or whether Ola haven't gone ahead for other reasons.

Also, the chairperson's remarks about the market being 'too full' betrays of lack of understanding of the market. The market for *drivers* maybe too full, but at the operator level suspect it's just more a case of the firms competing between themselves for the drivers and customers.

Ola UK Private director Karl Lutzow, 41, made the case for the newcomer at a council licensing panel hearing.

For those interested in the fine details of journalism (and correct me if I'm wrong), pretty unsusual to state someone's age in articles like this?

More usually in crime-related stuff, or human-interest stories, etc.

The local only condition played no part whatsoever in their decision not to proceed. They could have, and would have, started with most of the 100+ B&H licensed vehicles currently on Uber.

I'm absolutely certain Ola have pulled out due to them wanting to concentrate 100% on getting their London operation up and running, and don't want distractions from the like of B&H.

At least for now. :-$
