And assuming a screen does help, at a rough guess I'd say it would be more about how well it's sealed with the car at the edges than whether it's flimsy plastic or something more solid.
And presumably if there is a problem with airbags etc, I'd guess a flimsier screen would be less problematic than something solid.
That said, think a solid screen might make me *feel* safer, but I doubt if the science would add up as regards actual safety.
