The point is surely that the average driver can afford to jobs like this cheaply as regards charge per mile because they know they'll be minted as compared to what they'd earn normally.

I agree.

If your only taking £1500 a week your in the wrong area; I won't have a 50's driver taking under £1800 or a PAYE under £2K - and if they want a car to themselves then they have to add at least 50% to that - and keep the car maintained themselves. Want it on Rent and that gonna gost you about £500 a week.

Well it would do for me.

Say £500 for fuel, although in Europe it would be cheaper than here, then that leaves the driver £1,500 for a weeks work.

Now I hope the old girl paid for his food and board,
It was in the press today that the old doll also paid for his food and hotel bills whilst on the journey. :) Sounds like a canny fare to me \:D/

It would appear I'm in the wrong area.

Although the plate-barons often tell new entrants they can earn that sort of dough. [-X

Your forgetting though Sussex, people can be anything they want on a forum, even a bloke who thinks he's a Disney character, or another alter ego derived from that same Disney character.

If I was Alex I think I would be checking some ISP addy's for any matches with previous 'mixed up' persons.

I have heard of punters paying cabbies to go croos the channel and even pay for their board. I think one went on a last minute whim. Checked to see he wasn't doing anything else and off they went.

Missed out on a good trip from Hastings to Durham. Regulars of our taxi firm were moving up there. and needed to taxi for the dogs and animals. Would have had it if Bright Spark in the other cab on our firm hadn't opened his big fat prejudiced gob and insulted their child by calling it a "cretin and "retard" and making comments about mixed race children.

They were regular punters. Crossed hastings 2-4 times a day. fiver each way plus tips. And that idiot lost is it and lost the ride up to Durham.

Best one was Christmas Day few years ago.. gettign to the end. And i was tired so looking forward to my bed. Got flagged down by a mad Russian who was determined to go up to London and surprise his girlfriend first thing Christmas Morning. I told him the Chrismas Day price but alsi said that I was wacked and didn't want to do it but he could find some other driver. He pulled wads of money out his pocket and kept upping the price. I tried to disuade him. but when he got to £400 I said OK. Get in Lets Go. Talked nineteen to the dozen in stilted English so shoved the heating on full wack in the back and he was asleep in minutes. Woke him up when we entred Lambeth. Had to pull over and have a sleep in a laybye coming back.

Happy Christmas.

Junie
