whys the price going up?....the cost of refining hasnt, greedy, greedy petrol stations....its not on...1200 workers whining about contributing a measily 6% towards a gold plated pension...and a shut down which could cost the country billions of pounds in lost manufacturing of all goods and disruptin all other services...line em up and fire them one by one...any one got any sympathy for these strikers that are striking even though they earn more a year than we could ever dream of earning..arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!

Let me get this right: you wouldn't take what they fought for in a heartbeat? But if you had it, you would give it up, if asked?

You son, are an e*se, away you go ....

Has it occured to anyone that these guys could keep Grangemouth closed indefinitely by having a one day strike every 2 - 3 weeks?

I have no idea what the strike is about but it seems to me they have us all by the boll*cks.

Like every other strike, it'll be over before we know it. It's the Unions flexing their muscles and telling lies again, they don't like the fact the company involved have started legal action against them.

Easy get out, call a strike, and negotiate the legal aspect away before the union goes bankrupt.

Pity it was'nt the GMB.

Buses run out of fuel by Monday

Lothian Buses will run out of fuel after services end on Sunday night

The main bus company serving Edinburgh and the surrounding area has confirmed its fleet of buses will run out of fuel over the weekend.

Lothian Buses said it could not run services after Sunday evening.

The company had been due a delivery of fuel on Thursday, but BP have told them they have been instructed to prioritise delivery to petrol stations instead.

Fuel shortages are feared following the proposed shut down of Grangemouth oil refinery over pensions at the weekend.

Neil Renilson, chief executive of Transport Edinburgh Limited, which runs Lothian Buses, said he called the Scottish Government to note his concerns over prioritising petrol stations over public transport.

He told BBC Scotland news website: "This is a complete reversal of the situation during the tanker strike a few years ago when public transport was deemed a priority user.

"We fail to understand why the ordinary petrol station should be prioritised above public transport.

"The reality is if we don't have fuel we can't run any buses. It just doesn't make sense."

fuel rationing in Glasgow and Dundee £10 each.

The main problem as I was informed by a tanker driver on Monday is there are not enough qualified drivers, due to the safety certificates they need to have, and they are only allowed to work to there max hours, the one I spoke to said he normaly only does 4 drops a day to top up those that need it and if folk continue to panic buy they cannot keep up

There is no shortage at the moment though, if people had not panicked and tried to control their paranoia we wouldn't have been in this situation for quite some time if at all.

Sheeple syndrom as usual.

So how's the rest of the country?

Down here, central south coast, this morning, my local Shell made me the last one to get diesel at 115.9p before putting it up a penny. :)

Apparently it was their third increase this week ffs. (I don't know...I've been in my sick bed! )

This is obviously the markets, both wholesale and retail responding to conditions but, once again, this fecking 'government' of ours will be raking it in and still want to increase duties next year.

If no buses ran? Well the London congestion problem would solve itself instantly.

We had no fuel for 5 days back in 2000 with the refinery 'blockade'

Most drivers scrounged around and kept on the road, I had the 5 days off, these situations will continue to occur now and then, and a bit like holidays you have to build it in to your contingency plans and allow for it.

I'm just waiting on the English mob following it up with copycat strikes and the usual Media hype that follows.

if panic buying starts round here then usually the petrol stations are ordered to serve emergency services only which in practise means that the police Ambulance service doctors and local politicians can all get fuel

I think part of the problem was that the management of the refinery started the shut down before even trying to negotiate a settlement and are hoping that the damage caused results in swinging public opinion on their side or even forcing the unions to back down there is a shortage of refining capacity in this country so there is no danger of losing business to their competitors
