And what yellow is yellow? :?

I think the idea is for the council to choose the exact colour, including paint make & reference number of the colour, & have all the PHVs resprayed in that colour.

If it were me deciding it would be pearlescent yellow.

Just think of the cost involved!!

It is really quite original when you think about it... the best they can come up with is... we copy New York...

I suppose a Council Official on a Wage of around a £125,000 per annum plus Expenses and Gold plated pension that he can get at age 60 has to come up with something...especially if that something will cost honest Business people Millions of pounds needlessly spent on what is no more than a whim....and which in turn leads to Payoff of drivers to fund it. well yes..its a Bloody Brilliant Idea

Call me Mellow Yellow....

I truly give up with them.

But never forget, all committees on council's are advised by council officers, & generally the councillors accept their advice.

You could almost understand it. if they were saying all Hackney's had to yellow.. a prominent stand out colour to make them visible to the public, but it would seem the intention is to make the public jump into a private hire car.....

Depends how the LA do it....upon replacement policy?

They cant adjust PH fares to compensate for additional costs.

Quote:
Pat Murtagh, Birmingham’s representative on the National Private Hire Association, said: “From the perspective of safety and image, a uniform colour is a fantastic idea and I agree that it ought to be something easily recognisable."

“Some of the issues over age of vehicles will cause hardship to drivers."

“I will be making a case against making new cars compulsory because I don’t think it’s necessary and it would do little more than mean drivers would need a fare rise to cover the cost.”

Errm

I thought the colour policy would be ok with the PH Assoc.

I thought the age policy would be a problem.

And WTF are they saying about fares?

You sound like one of our councillors from about 20 years back.

We have always had purpose built Hackneys in Birmingham, you know the ones, with a pod on the front of the roof with an illuminated sign with the word 'TAXI'. We've never had saloon cars Hackneys.

Yet this chairman of licensing wanted another, bigger, after-market illuminated pod with the word 'TAXI' in the middle of the roof as well, because it was his opinion that the public would then be sure it was a taxi.

They're all plonks.
