The reason PH cars cant drive in bus lanes is because they would intice other drivers of "ordinary" salloon cars to follow them. Taxis can easily be identified as such, AT THE MOMENT. With the soon to be eqaility bill all London PH will have to change to WAV's. Maybe then they will be allowed into Bus Lanes. But I bet they wish that event does not happen.

Of course this is not correct is it. Taxis from other areas can be saloon cars and use the bus lanes.

Grandad, it would appear that a little confusion has been created. As posted all private hire and taxi's being fully licensed have a right to travel in bus lanes, unless specifically prohibited by local regulation ,IE--"local buses only".
As far as i am aware all vehicles whether hack/ph, carry one or more identifiers accredited by their l/a MOGO PLATES,SIDE SIGNAGE,ROOF LIGHTS, LICENSING AUTHORTY PLATE , London has the yellow disc identifier +the TFL roundel fixed to both front and rear screens .
Now if TFL change the street signage in the Greater London area to TFL approved vehicles, out of town cabs should still be able to access them according to the the previously stated legislation.do you agree?

Apart from the Collins definition I quite like the Home Office definition of a taxi driver, in relation to CRB checks. :D

"taxi driver" means a driver of a hackney carriage vehicle who is required to be licensed by a person pursuant to section 46 of the Town Police Clauses Act 1847 and section 59 of the Local Government (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1976 or pursuant to section 8 of the Metropolitan Public Carriage Act 1869, or a driver of a private hire vehicle who is required to be licensed by a person under section 51 of the Local Government (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1976 or the Plymouth City Council Act 1975 or the Private Hire (London) Act 1998;

Admittedly that does apply to the driver not the vehicle, but it's reassuring to see that the Home Office accept that both cab drivers and minicab drivers are one of the same.

thought i had better post the law again.

So you spoke to Bob Oddy then.It does not surprise me that he would be unaware of recent moves, as again i repeat, that you and your organisation are not stakeholders and so are not invited to sit at the High table. The PCO are only involved in the distributing of the consultation surrounding advertising and the new identifier that will enable P/H TO BE RECOGNISED AS LICENSED taxi's as defined in the legislation enshrined in the 1998 ACT re-CRB CHECKS.This identifier will be part of TFL acceptance . I suspect that roadside signage may be altered to read as follows. "TFL APPROVED VEHICLES" and as the private hire trade are exactly that, could be game over.
further the mayor has refused to repeat his election pledges to you, and hasn't he already caused a mutiny by scrapping age limit restrictions
BUS LANE ACCESS FOR ALL PRIVATE HIRE USERS

Don, are you suffering from some sort of breakdown?

You're really losing it this time.

Stakeholders? WTF are you talking about?
We've (The LTT trade bodies) been having meeting with TFL since their inception, and we were talking to the Met Police since time began. Decades and decades before Minicab licensing were even discussed. Trust me, I used to attend the meetings in a previous life.

Do you really expect folks to believe you have some secret channel to the Mayor?

A Tory Mayor that’s been in secret discussions with a communist orientated Union with under a thousand members in London? :?

A Union that the PCO only began meeting with about 2 years ago?

Watch that bowl of cereal doesn't go soggy.

Do you know Charlie by any chance? :D

Go for it.

Powder dry, as you sit on your complacent ranks you ,RMT ,LTDA ,LCDC and UNITE cannot see what is going on. I'll give a clue read the next edition of Private Hire and Courier.

Will that be in the second or third copy that floats around London?

Perhaps they could do a feature on how many sexual assaults take place in London by Minicab drivers on a monthly basis?

It could look into how Bus Lanes would help ease their escape from the pursuing Police cars.

WOA-BOYS,NOTHING POSITIVE COMMING BACK,just the same old tired rhetoric BILE--BILE, you even make the death of a person who was involved in an accident look as like a deliberate act.I am always saddened
to hear of any death whether a licensed driver was involved or not.
YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF YOURSELVES FOR YOUR CALLOUS COMMENTS.

TFL has a problem with the number of builders vans, pick-up trucks, Rollers, and 2 seater sports cars who currently see it as good value to register as minicabs to avoid the congestion charge. Many hundreds more will become minicabs to use the bus lanes.
