No limit to numbers
No knowledge test
Wider range of acceptable vehicles.

We already have no limit to numbers. How can it be a wider range of vehicles if it is to be a purpose built WAV than that of the taxis. I ask that because I believe if the model is not suitable to be a taxi wav than it's not suitable to be a ph wav. Why no knowledge test, don't you think ph drivers need to know where they're going :?

Private hire drivers should be given a pick up point and destination when the receive the job via their operator.

They are not put 'on the spot' in the same way as a HC driver......also PH now cover a multitude of other sins.

So with all that variety it's little wonder they didn't include the ph trade in the equalities bill. From my perspective and the service that I as a ph driver provide would most definately be a taxi driver if I was forced to purchase a WAV to do the same job as I am doing now. I'd also apply for an excemption from wheelchair duties

It aint much of a surprise them being excluded......however, the PH trade choose to be selective period.

They choose to be selective because they can. I believe if the taxi trade could, it would

Toots, our responses were merely in relation to your theoretical question about whether there would be any difference between HC and PH if both were required to have WAVs, I don't think anyone was making a value judgement about the rights and wrongs of it.

If I recall correctly when the whole DDA thing kicked off in the 1990s one of the original proposals was that PH should have swivel seats, but I think that fell by the wayside.

OK, that's not a WAV spec, but the point is that there are already many different WAV specs around, thus in theory if PH were required to have WAVs then it would possibly be less onerous than HC. Indeed, it seems Dundee has several WAV specs, and that's just for HCs alone.

My theoretical question was in response to Brummie suggesting that not only did he like the idea of HCs being 100% WAV but so should PH. The reason I posed the question was because where I am the only difference between myself as PH and others as HCs is the vehicles we can drive. If I had to put on a WAV as a PH I'd be HC driver. On what basis could the LA say that one vehicle is suitable to be a WAV on the PH system but not suitable for HC system. If we're all driving the same type of vehicles to do our job the public are going to be even more confused or at least pretend to be
