Update from Manchester Airport.....

Yes, Arrow cars have started their operations and have taken a few jobs....
But....a lot of questions need answering....
They have been given a ''Rank'' opposite the Hackney rank on terminal 1 and although this has had very little effect it is I believe illegal for private hire to ''rank'' up.....so there are many options which are being looked at by hackneys....
Still, its early days and after a few weeks the reality will dawn upon the management and drivers that Manchester Airport is not a piece of cake as they may have believed.....

I was watching the scenario outside T1 on Monday the ratio appeared (taken over 30 mins) "Hackneys 8"." Arrow 1". I did see a guy go to the first Hackney and ask a price but then he went over to first parked Arrow car. (All eyes on him!) The arrow driver did the right thing and directed him to their booking office. The customer didn't get that far as he was besieged by hackney drivers they obviously struck a deal as off he went in a black cab!
Another observation is that the majority of Hackney drivers have improved their dress sense and are bending over backwards to be polite!
So who are going to be the winners here except Manchester Airport?

Is it illegal if they're on a rank?

It may well be illegal for hackney drivers to approach the ''customer''....BUT it wouldnt have happened if there was no illegal private hire ''rank''

It's cheaper to get one of our ph to come and get me from Manair than it is to use Arrow and I don't think it'll be long before other customers work it out either.

Airport PH are always O.T.T on pricing.

A Mercedes saloon Minicab from Heathrow to the centre of London can cost as much as £100 squid with some of the big Minicab operators, and they only seat 4.
I take 6, as do more and more of the cabbies at Heathrow for around £58 to Mayfair.

Plus, just look at Gatwick and Stanstead.

Those customers with some know how always book a local firm to collect them, and avoid Checker cars rip off prices.

They have started to put numbers on their cars the highest I have seen is "34". There appears to be three main types: E7's, Volvo V50 estates and Mondeos plus an odd Octavia. (Its hard to count them when they all look the same.

Personally I think the V50's are a bit small for this type of work.

All in silver and Manchester licensed (at least Arrow have gone down this route unlike their predecessors)
