You mean welcome only if they jockey or buy a plate.

There is no good will in owning a plate . If you had a PH company and you had regular customers , you sold the business and it was 100% likely

 As a cab driver with my own cutomers if i was to sell my business i would also pass on my regular customers as not to let them down now i am sure thats goodwill

If you sell a cab business then you have to be careful to distinguish goodwill from the plate premium.

Plates are all worth the same (although the market can change so they may change hands for different values) and the premium has nothing to do with goodwill.

Say plates in an area are worth £20k, and a guy runs half a dozen taxis, which work the streets. If he sells them he will get £120k (plus the value of the cars)

Another guy runs a busy cab office with six taxis. If he sells them he will get £120k plus more for the work his office attracts. So he may get £150k for them, so the goodwill is £30k (again ignoring the cars).

But in most cases the cars are either working the streets or are paying office rents, in which case goodwill is irrelevant, and if the vehicle is sold at a premium then it's all for the plate.

I thought the reason it was quiet on here was that you Trafford lads had left the country. :)

I do understand your point, and do slightly agree with you. However the law is the law, and only those that apply can receive. Unless they want to rot on a waiting list.

But from my experience when one of the bigger boys applies for plates this forces councillors to actually look into the whole quota issue. And more times than not, in a few years time, they de-limit.

Wirral, Dundee and Chemlsford to name but three.

 As proceeding are still on going and any one can read what is said in taxi forums ( whether it be this or any other ) it is best not to say to much as passions are running high in Trafford as you or anyone reading the forums must well understand and thing may be said out of shear frustration but at the end of the day we all have families mortgages etc So yes we are very worried at what may happen to are lively hoods
