Until they are willing they are not a threat

Google are one of Ubers biggest investors  Doing the dirty work  Getting rid of the likes of me and you

A bit of research goes a long way.

Im aware of driverless cars, im also aware of a story in the Evening Standard today

Not liking what may happen in the future isn't going to stop it.

In respect of UBER they have been granted operators licenses in Leeds, London, Manchester - rumour has it they are applying for Liverpool.

Its quite ironic if not amusing, the major PH Operators in England pushed like hell to get the deregulation bill through - and this bill will allow the likes of UBER to completely scr*w them.

Its irrelevant that Uber is operating globally but in conflict with local regulations.
It doesn't matter that money talks and if they win the day or not.

Telephone booking is becoming obsolete. Their use generally is also diminishing if you believe what employers are saying about school leavers not able to use one. And Vodaphone surveyed customers to find 35% don't have a landline.

Apps are here, and will only develop they will not disappear. They are already incredibly sophisticated but simple to use. Their appeal is universal.

True some of the taxi trade embrace technology but nothing like the PH trade, which is for the most part owned, directed by and profitable to a small number of individuals. PH drivers do what they are told or don't get the work.

The taxi trade however falls on the rock of being self employed 'businessmen'. Entrenched to the point of being thrawn.
Reluctant to change 'a good thing' who use 'competition' as the excuse for raising the self above and beyond the common good and whose umbilical is the radio link to the office .

All suitably demonstrated in this thread.

Apps are possibly the trade salvation!

The technology we use is second to none, with a few taps a Taxi is booked, our company is a non profit co-operative, we in Edinburgh are well placed to stand up to whatever App companies think they can throw at us, we are adapting, we are evolving, personally I can't stand profiteering by big companies like Uber.

Again the regulation of the Taxi/PHC trades in Scotland is the envy of the rUK :D

Dougie you are delusional. #-o City Cabs exist only becasue it charges taxi drivers extortionate radio dues to buy work and all your technology is bought off the shelf, there is no adapting or evolving.

You simply buy work and pay for office staff and a committee, that is it. #-o #-o

That's a good piece again apart from "Apps are possibly the trade salvation!" I just don't see it. :-|

Ah some common ground there.

No bland statements, second to none blah blah.

What are the features. The benefits.?

Surely not!

Well I suppose you could claim to be second to none if you are the same as everyone else.

And you don't look beyond your nose!

Aye but Dougie won't believe any of it, until he's actually working for Uber, which by all accounts might only take a couple of years. #-o =D> =D> =D>

You know Dougie, I used to frequent Borders Book Shop nearly every weekend until it was replaced by Amazon. And now I use Amazon to buy all sorts of things. Oh and I'm getting rid of my hardline for my home phone because I never use it. It's called progress. City Cabs is an anachronism Dougie.

Would seem then that Reggie/Dougie is happy with his radio circuit.

It has a bog standard app, to keep ahead of competition though he doesn't see a future in them.
It doesn't have features like all the competition apps and really doesn't do much but he has an office and radio system to do most of the functions of bespoke apps..

He may be myopic? App users and providers may be dream chasers. Time will tell!

Sooner than we all think I suspect

Well I for one, am looking forward to my £15 free rides on my Uber app, when up the toon. Oh and you never know, I might even throw Dougie a few coppers on the way past, while he's sitting on the rank with his thumb up his ar*e. =D> =D> =D> =D>
