If it is of any help.... one of the things that has a big? over it..... is if a private hire company advertises itself as a taxi company.... and not private hire... :wink:

That would be very helpful if they banned PH using the word 'taxi' in any form of advertising whatsoever.

But, personally, I don't mind the term 'mini-cab'.
I don't think it's so much banning them from using the word taxi.... it more of the case if they use it they will have to provide a fleet of wheelchair accessible vehicles... :oops:

That wouldn't be a problem for the PH company I work for with them having so many HC's on their system. It's certainly a way forward for other PH companies
So all the drivers on the company will not mind changing to wheelchair accessible vehicles..

Of course they will, but, with a third of our fleet already WAV's we have readily available WAV's 24/7 they only have to ask. Same as if you require any specialist vehicle, you just ask. IMO the whole concept of PH being pre booked is twaddle anyway. Most people who phone PH want the vehicle yesterday ffs. It's an immediate booking for immediate use and is only used cos they can't be bothered going outside and flagging a taxi down or is it they couldn't find one anyway cos they are all sat on the ranks and beyond ranks on double yellows waiting for the passengers to come to them

I think the train of thought is that if the whole of the Hackney fleet has to be wheelchair accessible, then anyone advertising themselves as taxi company will have to make sure all of them vehicles are wheelchair accessible.... it seems fair in a weird type of way. and you have to remember that private hire is exactly that, privately hired vehicles and should be advertised as such.... 8)

Yes, but can't you see that their weird way of interpreting this matter is just 'a justification of their conscience' about the issue & ultimately fudging the whole solution.

I believe the Scottish Federation have been invited to attend the next meeting of minds that is being held at the Ministry for Transport...

Still on the BPG consultation, but changing the subject slightly ..... what I found strange is that on page 25 in the section;

Notice for taxi passengers - what you can expect from the taxi trade and what the taxi trade can expect from you

It states;

The driver will:

bla, bla, bla bla, then at point 5 it says,

'Take the most time-efficient route, bearing in mind likely traffic problems and known diversions, and explain any diversion from the most direct route'.

Now I know that this 'Notice to taxi passengers' is taken almost word for word from the Republic of Ireland taxi booklet publication advising of taxi changes in 2006, because I have read it & it's on my computer.

Did the DfT read this before printing it & understand the implications?

And ditto hackneys doing PH radio work.

If they want to do PH radio work then they should buy a saloon and do the PH knowledge. :wink:
