A question for Dusty..... let's say the council has the power by a condition of licence to insist that CCTV be installed in a vehicle..... by what power can they insist that the driver must turn it on... remembering of course that the Hackney driver's licence is regulated by by-laws....

Don't believe that either; I mean, Brighton is 'regulated', innit?

Things like that just don't happen. [-X

Don't they say sarcasm is the highest form of intelligence, probably why yanks don't understand it.

No they say sarcasm is the lowest form of wit.

An answer from Sussex.

Make it a vehicle condition of license that the vehicle operates CCTV whilst working.

Cctv installed here turns on when the meter is engaged also has a panic button installed.Only accesable by the police if incident has occured.Even when i didnt have it would have signs to say in operation, suprising how many people behave when they are on film :D

Don't be silly.... you can't prosecutor a vehicle.... the point that needs to be pointed out is even if they insist that a vehicle has to have it.... they have no power to prosecute the driver if he doesn't turn it on..... they would have to apply for a bylaw regarding his licence.... and I don't think they would get it....

But you can prosecute the owner of the vehicle for not adhering to the vehicle conditions.

To me, Activation on Meter Activation would be too late, as it would miss any Fare Negotiations.

I'd either have it running permanently or Activation on the Door Opening with Driver Deactivation at the Close of the Journey, but that would leave the Driver open to being Blackmailed to turn it off at some point during the journey.

They would never prosecute..... they would be laughed out of court....

They would either prosecute, or just revoke the license.

This privacy argument comes out of ignorance. If the conditions are written correctly, then the data is password and encryption protected. Sealed away in the boot, only to be accesed should an incident warrent it.
All other forms of public transport have cctv, so this argument that ppl will stop using cab is spurious.
Yet another example of ppl that complain about human rights laws yet use it for their own disingenuous means, they should just be honest and say they don't wish to pay for it.
