Can somebody please fill me in as to why Addison's drivers are not self employed ?

Are they operating in a similar manner to Arrows at Manchester Airport ?....Arrows have ph drivers who work

as follows :

Arrows keep 31% of the take....drivers rent the vehicle @ £200 pw and pay for their fuel and other bits...

Drivers do not handle any money as the ''fare'' is paid at the office.....

There is belief in Manchester that this is not self employment but employment by the back door.......but

without the benefits of an employed person like holiday pay or national ins contributions....or overtime etc

Could this mean that the Law Commission may have to consider the implications - of the questions - of the answers?

Might put another delay on things - possibly?

I mentioned the issue in an email to them last year.

They said that although it wasn't part of their core remit they didn't entirely rule out looking at it.

Of course, what that actually means is another matter, but perhaps the fact that it's now a political issue will help things along.

I also brought it to the attention of the OFT nearly a decade ago now, a lot of difference that obviously made - they didn't even mention it.

It would be far better if any owner of a PH or hack vehicle, who requires a driver, employee's that driver.
No more split bags or vehicle rentals.
Drivers across the UK have being taken for a ride for far to long

Tried it the vehicle always ran at a loss wages +NI +fuel came to about between 90 and 120% of the vehicles takings

Now I do rental only although all but one of my drivers have their own cars

The bottom line is that this Government and my predecessor and I have always approached all our meetings with absolute propriety, and that is the case on this matter, too.

Unlike its dealings with BSkyB, presumably.
