I don't see your point tbh, what has that do with where a private hire office is sited?

Planning permission. And if the cars are on full view to the public. ie, forming an illegal rank.

I do not know Liverpool and I am only offering information that may be helpful. As for the legal aspects you are going to have to help yourselves !

As far as I am aware it is all metered parking in Duke Street and I really don't think there will be much trouble with illegal ranking either as it's seldom you see Alpha Cars sitting around anyway. I think there's more a problem of over ranking by taxis in Liverpool and the forming of illegal ranks outside clubs etc as in most places and of course with it being the city that it is there are lots of other private hire vehicles sitting around waiting for jobs never mind Alpha who are at least licensed in Liverpool. I don't see a problem where they want their office to be tbh.

The planning proposals no 2

2.0 The Proposal
2.1 The application is for the conversion of the ground floor of the premises to a private
hire taxi booking office for Alpha Cars with an associated indoor café/waiting area.
The proposals also include the reconfiguration of the highway outside the building
to remove the existing loading bay replacing it with a footway and a part loading
bay part pick up zone. No external alterations to the building are proposed, and
there are no proposals for the use of the first floor.

If you know the building, you will know what i mean . A pick up Zone , that means to me a Rank. Four or five cars in a Line. I Also understand the loading bay is on private Land. All this because the police want people to get home a little bit quicker on Friday night and Saturday night for an hour or so . Because that's is what got this through planning . The police wanted this IMO

[quote="wee eddie"]It appears to me that this is just the creation of a fancy Private Rank for PH Cars and should be opposed at every turn.

Punter turns up, takes a seat, is directed to the first PH on the line.

What's that if it's not a Rank?[/quote

Mr Bradley's planning consultant and former Liverpool planning officer, Steve Chapman, Managing Director of Liverpool-based Devaplan Ltd said: "This is an exciting and an innovative scheme for Liverpool City Centre. The council's own Unitary Development Plan policies recognise the importance of encouraging the provision of taxi facilities to serve the city centre

Ahh so it's a case of safety and shelter then, I can go for that, but why get PH involved in it when the real providers should be the council and the licensed bars, one who takes money off all of us for a slip of £2 plastic and the other which turns mild people into disorderly problems, if anything this suggests that all ranks near popular drinking places should be monitored with a camera and a marshall and have a roof over it while the customers waits,

Why if this is required and I can honestly see it myself, does the council not consult the HC trade and work to provide the proper tools like they insist we have to, instead a PH company is going to make it a case of too many cocks in the hen house, eight cars for the door, where are eight cars going to stop all at once and not create chaos?

Spot on Sussex... And if the vehicles are standing on a meter or on any other Street/Public Highway/Carpark waiting for immediate hiring on full view to the public... It's illegal !

I guess it's a good job it's private land then isn't it, typical of taxis to think that ph should go hide themselves in the garage at home while they wait for a job. There is no issue with cars stopping outside their base to pick people up and I get the impression that you think ph are all sitting around waiting to take an immediate booking when most are just waiting for the job to come in, where do you think they should wait?

It's strange that the taxis are now only concerned because the operating base will be in the city centre, it's never bothered them before where it is now.

When taxi drivers drive around in circles because there is no rank space available I'll agree that ph should go hide in the garage

Why should they?

Show me where it states that taxis can only stand on a rank, other than the law that prohibits all vehicles standing on roads with restricted or no parking provisions?

They can only ply for hire on a rank (or whilst in motion) not just sit around anywhere they like waiting for work. If they could then why do we have ranks ?
