So UBER are running into problems in France and have announced losses of $470 million.

This may sound shocking for most companies but for UBER it appears like just another day in the office.

UBER are valued at $50 billion dollars and it seems Wall St bankers have given them another $2 billion cash credit line. UBER are expanding at 300% per year so losses will be expected until all the drivers and background staff are settled in the countries of operation.

Now here is the magic and why UBER call themselves a TRANSPORTATION COMPANY and not a taxi company. Once they get geographical driver saturation in every country and every street they are going to be a two tier company. The drivers when not picking up and dropping off passengers will collect and deliver parcels. UBER are going to take on parcel force, fedex and ups etc. They have already launched in some city's.

The model

Lower price---More demand---More Drivers
I I
Less driver-----Faster----More Geographical covered saturation
downtime Pick up

Also if you are for UBER or not, regulation for one and a more relaxed view for the other, please remember your councillor or the people up at the licensing board when elections come around. Stories are coming out about UBER's powerful lobbying executives. The fact is lobbying is not even illegal.

UBER even run a boat service in Turkey now taking people from Europe into Asia, amazing. It will soon be trains, planes and automobiles...oh and let us not forget parcels.

Does anyone know if UBER have had meetings with cabcom for purchase of PDA system?? I thought a driver just downloaded the software.

With the freedom of labour movement within the EU you can see why UBER must be rubbing their hands. I hope the black cabs in Edinburgh fight back on some level and are still here in 10 years.

Here are the conditions if anyone is interested.

"The conditions applied to their license will be enforced by council officers with the assistance of the Taxi Police Inspector as they are with all licensed booking offices in the city.”

At the committee, Uber confirmed that their intention was to comply with the current conditions needed for a licensed booking office in the capital.

A number of grant conditions were imposed by the committee around the location of the booking office, public safety and taxi tariffs.

Location of booking office

There will be no public waiting area on the premises as George Street would not be appropriate for private hire car to wait here for fares or passengers.

Public safety

Two public safety conditions were placed in order to protect passenger safety and "ensure that vulnerable passengers are not required to car share in any manner which causes them alarm or distress."

These were that only City of Edinburgh Council licensed private hire cars or taxis and drivers will be used for any booking, and that no sharing or multiple bookings would be accepted for any one vehicle unless agreed by passengers in advance.

Taxi tariffs

The final condition around taxi tariff made reference to the fact that the "licence holder shall not operate or advertise any taxi for booking which allows a fare to be charged for a journey within the council’s boundaries in excess of the maximum fares prescribed by the Licensing Authority."
