Less predictably the York
Private Hire Association has also
now opposed the plans. Their vice-
chairman Mark Wilson said they
had yet to finalise their response
to the consultation.

He said: “To be honest, we
cannot see any positives for
deregulation at the moment. We
spoke to people in Sheffield and
Swansea, both of which have
deregulated, and the feedback has
been negative.

“It tends to be that what
happens is a lot of private hire
drivers will get a hackney plate
and be driving around with
nowhere to park.”

He said they were concerned
deregulation would damage
customer service, and increase
pollution and congestion.

Oh dear what have we here? :?

Not an operator that doesn't like the idea of PH drivers having a choice as to whether or not they want to tell him where to stick his radio? :-$

If you run a good firm with good regular work for the drivers then operators have nothing to fear. But if you run an iffy outfit then you do indeed have a problem.

I wonder which variety Mr Wilson runs. :?

I wonder which "people" they spoke to in Swansea and Sheffield? :-#

The ones guaranteed to give the right answers, I suspect :-$

heard on the grapevine, the plate sold by the station driver who is now a leading councillor at York council, the buyer, who bought a few months ago, has a letter with his plate sale of 65 grand, stating York Council will not de restrict, you will have no worries with this purchase

a meeting was held with the seller and buyer this evening to discuss this letter and recent York Press taxi dereg headlines

If there is such a letter then Mr Councillor has 'fettered his discretion', and should pay no part in any way, shape or means during this process. [-X

If the letter is as Pete says then in effect he's lying, because he can't make categorical statements that he can't guarantee. :^o

Even assuming there's no such letter, surely he's also fettered his discretion insofar as he's going to look bad if he's profited from a plate which has later become worthless, so even as a face saver he will want to keep the status quo in place.

Sixty for the plate and five for the vehicle? Is that accurate?

By calculating the plate value, on a rental and earnings basis, would it be fare to say that a 12 hour night rental on a weekly basis from 6pm to 6am would be in the region of 250 pounds per week and potential gross earnings before diesel for an average Friday and Saturday night would be in the region of 450 to 500 pounds for the 12 hour shifts, if not more?

I was just testing the accuracy of predicting rent and earnings, from plate values?

Regards

JD

For what it's worth, I think £250 a week for a night rental, as long as Fri and Sat are mobbed, isn't a bad deal.
