Why are the authors of "mist and delusionality" so coy about their identity, when it is such a well thought out piece of journalism. The halcrow SUD report (on Lincoln)was written by a Dr. Stephen Pells, a professor and everything, he's got letters after his name you know, a real professor, and he didn't use half as many big words in his report. Don't be so shy, it's a brilliant work, in fact it could be a bestseller.... in the fiction section. Still Laughing by the way... Any economists out there who can tell me how the heck it can be that in a town where the number of taxi's double and the number of drivers double and the local largest factory closes, that earnings remain static how can a local economy sustain a 400% increase in taxi availability with a loss of 2000 jobs in a local factory? The cake is only so big, it's the slices that get smaller

Captain this site is biased, that is not a bad thing, its what the owners and administration of the site want and that is their right.

They do allow members an opportunity to voice their opinions within the forums, but they never admit that "myth and reality" is a bias document, because of that they would publish any document offered but make every effort to point out that their opinions are unbias and the "new document" was bias in favour of the authors opinion.

There is a bigger picture, and its not a pretty one.

I think Myth and Reality is no more biased than the similar stuff that has been produced by the pro limitation trade. It has obviously been produced countering the propaganda from some of the HC trade.

It seems to me, and perhaps I'm a little more open minded than some, that the HC trade expect everyone to believe there BS but as soon as someone produces something which is opposite to what they believe it has to be condemned.

I disagree with parts of the document, however, the document is quite right in other parts, and this is obviously unpaletable to some.

Perhaps its a kind of class thing, some in the HC trade think of PH as ignoramuses, they are naturally surprised when they think people such as PH can actually come up with a well written, well constructed piece. The point of this statement is obvious, who is the real ignoramus? PH who have to compete with each other in a market that is highly competative, or HC who invariably have been working in a protected market, with little competition.

I have made my views known on the M&R piece, and sincerely hope they are taken as constructive, they are by no means a critisism of the document, merely an observation.

regards

Captain cab

I have made my views known on this thread and on my response to the document on another thread.

The one point I would state to you is duplicity is espoused by elements of the HC trade when faced with delimitation, you can hardly blame someone for pointing this out.

A common post.

However wouldn't it be better if you debated the content of the report, and pointed out your assumed fiction, instead of debating who wrote it? :-k

The difference between M&R and the usual tosh given out by our so-called leaders is that M&R has references for each point made.

When our so-called leaders start backing up what they say with proper facts, then many of us in the trade will start respecting them, as opposed to laughing at them.

I can assure everyone that M&R was written by a 100% licensed taxi owner/driver.

As he said recently, he has only ever been in a PH once in his life. I believe he has yet to recover from the shock.

Well you only have to ask him Jimbo.

I suspect he knows what a ceterus paribus assumption is, you clearly don't, but you don't have to know the meaning of the phrase to understand the principle.

BTW, if you give me £20k, I'll tell you who I am, just like Dr Pells.

BTW, M&R is clearly anti-restricted numbers.

What is the point of all this stuff about bias and the like?

It's like accusing Michael Howard of being a Tory!!

In all seriousness Jimbo, I think taxi availability only increases by 100% in the example, so perhaps you haven't quite read it carefully enough?

Also, it doesn't specify an exact number for the job losses, so you must have made that up?

The example wasn't intended to fully analyse the economic effects of the job losses, it was just to demonstrate the misleading nature of taxi numbers as regards availability, that's why it was assumed that the job losses didn't affect demand for taxis.

It's common in economic analyses to keep variables (such as demand in this case) static to demonstrate how other variables will behave (taxi supply/availability in this case) - ask Dr Pell.

By the way, I've never heard of a professor titling himself Dr, I think that's wrong as well Jimbo.

Please explain.

Are you saying Jimbo is correct?

That was why I asked - I didn't understand your Dr comment.

By the way, I'm not sure what Jimbo's post had to do with London, apart from the fact that his location begins with the letter L
