Welcome to the thread B7. Will be good to get another viewpoint on here.
I didn't say there was aggro and have pointed out how the drivers have worked together.
Just some tensions which seems to have settled down but i make the point the trade has to be careful not to let others take advantage.
The Independents blocked up the whole town on Saturday and handed out thousands of leaflets which criticised the contract between the taxi company and the Clyde centre management.
But the radio is a like an umbilicle for many of the non independents- the radio hirers.
There was some criticism of both these actions as it affected fellow drivers business. Independent drivers are just ordinary people trying to save their jobs and their incomes for themselves and their families, they won't get everything right. But they won't achieve anything by doing nothing.
The difficulty for the independents is making their protests and voices heard whilst they recognise it is not in their interests to alienate the non independent radio hirers.
Most of the drivers have worked side by side for years and know each other very well. They are members of the same trade association.
Drivers didn't bring this about and very few welcome it.
Skull makes the point that all taxi companies/booking offices are nothing without drivers. They have nothing except a phone number until the time when they own all the plates which is their aim.
One thing that has been proven beyond doubt in the last two weeks is just how strong the taxi trade can be in any town when they stick together in a common interest.
