What money would that be ? Iam a driver, never owned a plate, you see Mr Taylor you presume that everyone fighting de-restriction is a plate owner ! I don't have a value to protect ! I have a level of income to protect ! And just for the record, I think the £50,000 price tag is way over the top ! and the skull could be closer to the point when he says the credit crunch could see that figure drop even below what he sold his for !

Ross, why are you against derestriction, :?: you must be paying out £1200 every 4 weeks, £15,600 per year and for what, if you had your own plate for another £50 that would get your licence for the first year.
Then you buy a cheap second hand cab for about 6k, insurance about £800 avarage, ( I paid £499 plus admin of £28 this year) so you could work when you wanted and keep it all to yourself, even let someone drive if they wanted, at a reduced rent of course, or a split bag like we do

You have an income level to protect Ross?

So, tell us all what you've done to protect it thus far?

You've allowed rentals to be hiked. You've said nary a word about the huge increase in fuel costs. You've said and done nothing about the council taking away our trade by restricting our numbers, evaporating the trade's critical mass, while extending their own transport provision.

You've done nothing to argue for transparency in the control of our trade, allowing it be run like a private club for vested interests.

In short Ross, you've done nothing at all. Except trot out the propaganda of those who thinl jack shecht about you, like some bewildered rabbit caught in the headlights, and just about to be tyre treaded.

Nice one Ross.

Me thinks the constant iteration of the plate value means nothing, what goes up can also go down and vice versa, nothing new in that is there.

They are a sunken cost, we know that also, they went up at the same rate as property prices and I dare say they will go down with property prices.

I notice you constantly try and isolate the taxi trades economics from everything else, as if there is no correlation between the fortunes of the taxi trade and anything else.

Everythings interlinked though and everything has a knock on effect.

I agree with Ross, it's about making sure the trade remains viable surely.

Personaly I'm just glad I wont have to think about it anymore, either way Jim remember.

Everything's interlinked?

So Stu, tell us all when plate values fell in line with economic downturn? Since incorporation was introduced, I can't recall prices ever falling. It's been a relentless increase as newcomers buy into the illusion, bolstered by the fantastic incomes there supposed friends have bragged about.

And tell us when rentals have ever fallen. If there has been fluctuating economic fortunes, tell us when rentals were reduced, or when garage bills fell back because of reduced demand, or fuel prices dropped.

On the back of restricted practices it's clear to even a half wit that the taxi trade bucks all of these trends. Irrespective of how our business fluctuates, the driver just works longer and harder for the same money to meet the demands made of him. That's why it's becoming more difficult to make a living.

And longer hours means lower safety for customers. By adopting restriction and bringing about the conditions that prevent a driver to control his own costs, rather than owners who do nothing to contain a drivers costs, the council is leaving itself open to being an accessory in the event of any accident brought about by drivers having to work excessive hours to meet the high cost demands imposed on him/her.

You are under the impression that I pay £300 a week rental, obviously you are influenced by the figures quoted on here ? I pay nowhere near that figure ! does that surprise you ? it shouldn't ! because most of the trade pay less than that ! These two keep using an extreme example to prove their point ! an average would not !

I have nothing against a controlled plate issue when demand is unmet, but I am against a free for all where you have no control till its to late !!

Apart from the 5 who won their plates Edinburgh hasn't seen an increase in plates for nearly 7 years. In which time the Edinburgh economy was booming.

Of course, the Ph did only increase by 500 cars over the same period. Oh and plate values did Doubled in price. Oh and rentals went up in some cases to over £300. Oh and now it's a lot harder to find shifts, the shortage of which can only get worse continuing to drive up rentals and plate "values".

Oh and BTW Ross, just try and find a rental with 6 shifts including a Friday and Saturday night for less than £300?

You Ross are a scum bag.

The reason I call you a scum bag is because of your willingness to be owned. It's quite pathetic. You seem to derive some sort of masochistic pleasure for it. I'm starting to think your owner bends you over and gives you a dam good Rodgering

You're obviously a key board hardman. Keep the threats coming.

They show you're hurting. All that does is increase the pleasure of hurting you.

Ehjoy plink!!!

BTW

Perhaps I should that your apparent hurt is only in your own mind. While you will be thrashing around self flagellating, real business oriented members of our illustrious trade will be taking full advantage of those like you without the wit to seize the commercial opportunity.

Never claimed to be a "hardman"Jim thats you jumping to the wrong conclusion once again
Why would i be hurting Jim,you are not capable of hurting anyone especially not me thats you in cuckoo land again.
You are the laughing stock of the Edinburgh taxi trade, surely you know that with all the insults and threats you receive.
So you are a, "real business oriented member of our illustrious trade",    ,tell me Jim, how much have you wasted on all your failed crusades up to now? That sounds real business orientated to me
and tell me how much would you expect to make on a daily basis if you where to succeed, taking on board that the number of taxis would considerably increase and the same amount of people would be using them.........yea real business orientated.
You really do not have a clue Jim do you.

you know saf

What have i got to fear Ali ?
Do you not remember anything i have said to you ?
It didn't take long to hear from you though Ali,tell me how are your very high standards of morals you kept going on about ?
Good to hear you sold your plate but remember don't spend the money to quick,54k is not a lot of money just ask Gary
Who would have guessed you would sell your plate then listen to the two bawbags about applying for another one.Never mind apparently they are guaranteed to win this time
Remember as well Ali, all us owners are right greedy barstewards,so when your new application fails along with the rest of the scroungers, which it will, you will need to pay us greedy barstewards £300+ a week for a drive.
So in comparison with the 54k you made, the future doesn't look to good for you does it
You selling your plate when you did Ali is "fear",you really shouldn't listen to they two clowns.Do you really think the council are going to let you twits use them as your own little finance company :-&
Remember as well Ali,every owner knows who you are,so when you do go and look for a drive don't be surprised if your rental, if you get one, is slightly higher than normal
Btw,just ask Peter Traynor how the market is regarding people looking for plates,i heard the last one he sold went for £66k,that was plate, taxi on the 03 plate and a position with city cabs.
If you held out that wee bit longer you could have got at least £56k
Now if it is all going to go t*ts up like Jim,you and Gary would believe,do you think these companies would still be offering these guys finance to buy a plate :-k :-k :-k :-k :-k :-k :-k :-k

saf t lad
im out of the taxi game i will never return.
but i will make money from it as long as i can
plates are 50k.
the model you quoted 66k for 03 taxi plate and position
16k for a taxi and position
some people dont half buy shecht.
let me get this straight you want me to ask someone who makes a living out of selling plates wether the market is good or not? aye! ok then
perhaps i should ask an estate agent wether property prices are good and wether now is a good time to buy in givin the financial climate,do you think i could trust that answer.
peter just introduces buyer and seller.
he would be the first to tell you that he does not know the legal position
as for me selling due to fear youre having a laugh.
i paid buttons for my plate and taxi.
i unlike you didnt lose anything, i made a huge profit.
its simple business and in business thier is risk,im taking that risk,i may win or lose, time will tell.
but ill tell you one thing it was iether that or spend the rest of my days sitting behind the wheel driving a feckin taxi for a living making a pitance and working long hours, just like you.
no thanks i made the right choice.
im well out of it.
