I don't believe they should require that all HC/PH be WAV's. This simply would alianate other disabled users who can't get into WAV's. I don't know what the solution is but I do know that the solution is not 100% WAV across the board. How they will decide who has to be WAV and who doesn't is beyond me. I do believe we have to make our voices heard and not be ignored in this consultation

I have yet to meet anyone who cannot (that is, physically unable) who cannot get into or out of My WAV (Metrocab) who is physically able to get into a "non-wav" either aided or unaided.

Many PH vehicles around here are totally unsuitable for the elderly and less able, the transit crew bus, the galaxies, etc.

But unless someone comes up with a viable proposition as to how a mixed fleet is fairly and equitably achieved, the only fair option is 100% compulsory WAV, or by voluntary agreement.

And I have never met anyone who cannot get into my saloon (and ive had quite a few Wheelchair users)....I reckon if they cant access my saloon they'll either be needing an ambulance or a hearse...

I must be hearing things then when customers tell me they're glad it's not a HC that turned up for them cos they have trouble getting into them, either that, or all my customers that say it are liars and incidently so is my mother. I think not

Our firm has a mixed fleet WAV and Saloons and we are frequently asked for non WAV cars by both the elderly and people with folding wheel chairs.

Some people just don't like WAV and if we as HC have to change to all WAV the owners with saloons have said they would go to PH

This is true. For some of them, travelling in a saloon is the only time they feel normal. For the length of the journey, no one notices their disability.

Good point..no wheelchair user im sure would want to be sitting bolt upright in the rear of a mobile greenhouse for all to ogle at..it would be reminiscent of the people getting carted to the guillotine in a cart...hardly the most dignified way to travel.

Has anyone really asked those most concerned what they actually need or do we have the " we know best whats good for you" brigade telling them what they ought to have...this is just so typical of the nannyfication of our country and indeed the EU.

Surely we have to give disabled people the choice of car they want to get into when they approach a rank?

It makes you laugh really, they have had 15 years to work on this... and then... give the hackney/ private hire trade nine weeks to respond. which actually works out less... I believe that private hire monthly has held going to press so that it can publicise what the government are up to.. but Taxi Talk was not so lucky.. and others.... how can national associations and unions contact their members hold meetings locally and then nationally in nine weeks.... somebody's playing games..
