Skull my change over is 5 but I am normally back at 3.00 - 3.30 so I do have the option to work on a wee bit. I cant remember the last time I done less that £150 during the week unless I finish early. I reckon the guys starting about 7 would make about £40 - £50 less a shift. This week is tough for sure and I guess that luck comes into it as well. I was having a mare when it was busy between 8 and 9 and then I got three good social work jobs on the bounce.

I would struggle to pay the bills on less than £150 per day and I would prob lose the lot if the council did open the doors but thats out with my control so I don't worry about it.

qwerty123456 the airport has busy times where you can get through over 200 cars per hour and really dead times you can sit for hours so I only go at the busy times if I am near.

You have a few options if you buy a cab, you can buy a old TX1 and pay for it to stay on the road or you can finance a new cab but pay a huge amount every month in finance. Permits at the airport are limted but not sure the amount. A job really is what you make of it and it depends on the person. I like driving and talking so it works for me :D

Not the only one making money mate. I know loads of taxis drivers, some make good money, some make ok money and some make poor money. There is no secret but the money is made on the day shift before 10am. If you get up early then you get airport runs. If you think about each one being worth about £17 then you could, if it works out get about 5 before 10. I have a pass for the airport and on a normal day I do 4 jobs back in, some are Gogars or Gyle's but a lot of times you get a town or a country job.

Its not hard to make money early doors as a lot of guys dont want to get up early and these are the guys saying they cannot make money.

Its bloody hard getting up so early but its worth it :D Guys are selling because a lot of them are financed to the or they cant accept its a different job to when a lot of us started. Having a radio is a must for me due to the hours I work and you can still make money if you hunt for it and chase jobs. You won't make money sitting in ranks like the guys on a sat night who sit 10 deep on the wav or lothian road

Start early? I bet i,m oot earlier than you,and if you can string two airports together youre doing well, granted those figures i have acheived! but not every day, not by a long shot, lucky if its one or two, youre obviously in central the chasing the jobs gave that away, so have you been shafted by the (your'e unit was reconnecting bulls**t) and the fact crt aint answering their phones as they should is making a huge difference on guys takings,so ive heard :lol:btw you admitted its a different job,how much were you making before then???

what a dont get is the fact you wont name the company radio u sub let ?

bit strange surely they have other drivers on this forum making the same money as you ?

can i clear up how the radio gets your income up ,as i said new to the whole game just interested in how things work before working out if irs worth it or not .. do they radio you jobs in the area you say ur in or do jobs come up on screen and u take ur pick first come first served ?or is it unfairly dished out depending on how much ur willing to give the company % wise of the calls income at the end off your shift .... :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?:

god all these questions

As I said before, your figures are doable, if you are hungry, dedicated and have flexible hours to make your own luck but not even you could keep up those figures from January through to July, it's just impossible. From August to the end of December, it's a distinct possibility if you are thrashing every hour but for you, it makes no difference, there appears to be no quiet period during the day, night, or year. :-|

Btw, January to the end of July is six months of being a lucky greedy bast*rd.

one joined the forum in Oct 11 never heard of him before? The other in Nov 11, since i have been on this forum very very few have publicly advertised their income to the full extent as the likes of Funguy, got to ask the question? why not PM the guy instead of making it public? And yes I find his Income at this current time very hard to accept along with the majority, sorry Funguy it does not wash with me, you state you get country jobs every week from the Airport? well all i can say is that it is out of the norm, you must be lucky every week

At least Funguy's consistent.

viewtopic.php?f=12&t=17644

And he works for Central.

And he has a driver.

Maybe the driver's rental is included in the takings he's citing :D

Well I don't mind declaring that I don't usually take as much as Funguy's £480 on Saturday.

And that's the whole week I'm talking about, not just the one shift

Mind you, I don't have a radio, the car is paid for and is a saloon, so probably a bit cheaper to run.

Can't really be bothered these days, and the last thing I'd call myself as a taxi driver is "Funguy"

I think the truth of the matter is, for most, the game is [edited by admin]*d. If you happen to be a young bloke with lots of enthusiasm and no preconceived ideas, you might still make a few quid, but it's not going to be easy.

To anyone thinking about becoming a taxi driver, (qwerty) don't bother, spend your time looking or training for something with a future. The taxi game is on a downward spiral and has little or no prospect of ever improving, at least, not for the foreseeable future.

To quote Jimmy Reid, “a rat race is for rats” and that's what it means to become a taxi driver nowadays. :-|

There's no meritocracy in the taxi trade.

It's survival of the strongest, and the strongest are the vested interests.

Of course, you can become one of the vested interests. The price is 30-50K to buy into the illusion.

Otherwise, competition is restricted.

5.50am start and 4.00pm finish £172 on the clock before fuel and tips and it was a quiet day! I need to earn myself £3500 per month just to pay the bills so how could I pay the bills without making the money I make?? I am a owner and my rental is on top of this but anyone who cannot make £150 after fuel on days must be doing something wrong or sitting on station/airport ranks all day!

As I said £150 after fuel dayshift x 4 and £300 after fuel on a sat night = £900 and this is at this time of year, festival is much more :D :D

trying looking for work instead of sitting around moaning
