The important thing is that everybody in the cab trade can join a Taxi Association or a union, it is their choice, most people who do not join are very happy to let other people bear the cost and cost in time to represent them, you know and I know that they
can represent themselves, and on some issues do, but mostly they leave it too other people.

This labour Government was voted in by 25% of the nation so it only represents those persons who voted it in. The majority of the nation voted against the Labour party but the only reason they got a mandate was because of the vagaries of our election system? Under a system of PR they would not have had a mandate, in fact no one would have had a mandate.

The point is we are discussing private trade representation not elected Governments. Don't try and cloud the issue just because you have no defence to the fact that most trade organisations do not represent the majority of people in the taxi trade.

This website does not represent anyone and the views contributed by each individual subscriber are of their own making. The fact is that many of the points raised on TDO are agreeable by like-minded people but that is not to say all points are agreeable? Besides, just like every other individual TDO has a right to point out what it sees as inconstancies in statements made by any individual who puts forward an argument based on fact and that is why TDO welcomes scrutiny of its own statements based on those very same facts.

Dusty didn't shirk from his willingness to engage in debate over his Myth and Reality report and that is because his report was based on fact. I have always been available to answer questions on the facts contained in the restricted quota list. If people don't like facts then they shouldn't peddle misinformation wrapped up as fact.

I don't have to point out that if some people wish to stray from the facts then this site will reset the balance in spades. Personally I don't think there is any need for any of us to stray that far from the facts, do you?

In many cases the simple fact that people do not join an organisation is because those organisations do not represent their veiws and just because an organisation exists under a minority, does not give them the right to say they represent the majority. As was suggested by Captain Cab in the case of Peterborough.

Associations and unions represent the views of their members, the members are the people who vote as to the policy that the organisation's put forward, it is too easy a cop-out saying that they don't represent the views of drivers who are not part of associations, all they have to do is join, and then if they become the majority that disagree then policies can be changed, if they choose not to be bothered then the only person to blame is themselves.

I only disagree with you on three points, the start, the middle and the end, but apart from that....

From my experience unions and associations, in the main, represent what the leadership want those unions and associations to represent.

It's a sad reflection on this trade that so few taxi/PH drivers are in a union/association, and it's a sad reflection on those unions/associations that so few drivers want to join them.

More times than not the bloke in charge is usually the only one that can be bothered to attend meetings. And he was only voted in because no-one else could be bothered.

I've met in my time some lovely fellas that I would really enjoy a bite to eat with, but as for representing me and the taxi/PH trade. I don't think so.

Times will change, and one day this trade will unite and get organized, but I feel most on here will be long gone by then. :?

I suppose tinkering is like foreplay, you eventually get to where you want to be but it takes a hell of a lot longer? lol

I think you place too much importance on the facts, what is a fact, something you read, something you heard on the radio, something you were told, facts are often wrong.

The truth of the matter is that councils that deregulate do so because they have failed in their responsibility to provide a first class taxi system, deregulation is just a cop-out and also a way to bring in wheelchair accessible vehicles where there are none, it is just local councils being manipulated by government.....in my opinion

On the contrary, I feel fact is the only thing that you can place importance on, if not fact what do you have?

I wasn't aware deregulation had surfaced in this thread Trevor? You are entitled to your opinion as always but I don't think the deregulation issue is not as cut and dried as you make out.
