[ACABBIE.congratulations on being honest and upfront regarding your opinions of what this job is about.

2. given your statement about "subject to variation " perhaps this should be reflected in removing waiting time adjustments to meters,as if you can navigate without delay, then this could be passed on to the customers benefit.

3.the point i was making is that with the vast amount of money that is passed to TFL from this trade ,we are not getting value for money in terms of enforcement. BUSES/TUBE travel attract far more attention in terms of enforcement for fare evasion than taxi/private hire who are concerned for PUBLIC SAFETY and desire a tout free industry. It would seem that once again the issue of revenue comes first.

4. OK ,so ED has gone but don't run away with the idea that others at the PCO are not complicit with the making of rules ,despite the regular statement that the PCO do not make the law ,but merely govern it.The private hire organisations work quietly away and prepare for the equal and level playing field that will be of benefit to all including the public

SUSSEX. dont forget to mention that it was the GMB that campaigned for the stopping of temporary permits, which was one of the ways in which unscropulous companies flooded circuits with drivers possibly with shady pasts.........oh heck you have done already!!!!!still just to remind people :

I WISH TO DIRECT YOUR ATTENTION TO THE PRIVATE HIRE INDUSTRIES VIDEO ABOUT BUS LANES: this is what we do instead of bringing disruption to the streets of London and misery to the Public,so pour yourself a cuppa or your preffered drink ,sit back ,and watch both part one and two, then let battle commence...........cant wait for your responses to this !!

As i understand it, and i'm happy to be corrected. We have access to bus lanes because we have a meter and thus unlike PH who work to a fixed price or £X to the mile our price is subject to variation because of traffic conditions etc.

You have access to the bus lanes because in the 1970's Taxi Drivers blocked them in protest. PHV's are now clearly identfied so there is no reason to prevent access. In any event many PH believe the current situation is unlawful hence the M4 action. You can watch the latest campaign film.

Very Big deal.

That’s why PH work all the hours god sends, and I do a three night week.

It's called quality, and not surprisingly it often brings out this vicious streak of jealousy from the PH side of the trade, as can be seen from your diatribe.

But.

That’s why you work for a company and have to pay them for your work.

That’s why you have to be a good boy and not upset the boss.

That’s why the Police are constantly investigating the crooks that run Glasgow PH.

Quality? Don't make me laugh.

What streak of jealousy? I'm merely posting in a manner which suits this thread as most of the posts about not being able to drive in the bus lane from the BH trade sound more like a diatribe than anything I've said.

Subtle, nuanced and philosophical debate? From Black Cab drivers? I don't think so!

More like:

"WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHH WAAAAAAAAAAAAHHH IT'S A BUS LANE, THEREFORE WE SHOULD BE ABLE TO DRIVE IN IT BECAUSE WE'RE BUSES TOO....OR....NO....WAIT....WE PROVIDE A VALUABLE SERVICE MUCH LIKE THE PRIVATE HIRE TRADE DO BUT WE'RE BETTER THAN THEM BECAUSE THEY'RE ALL RAPISTS!"

Glasgow Private Hire; I wasn't aware they were under investigation. Why don't you ring them and ask. They're on 0141 222 2220. If you can de-tangle yourself out of your gaudy knitwear and put the fire out under your bonnet for more than a couple of minutes maybe you can ring them and ask.

First of all, as you probably know, (I’m sure you do ‘cause your quite an intelligent guy – except you hate Hackney) the fact that it is called a Bus Lane has nothing to do with which vehicles can legally use the lane.

That is set down in the Traffic Regulation Order for that particular piece of road. In the TRO it will probably state that buses, taxis, motorcycles can use the Bus Lane, together with emergency service vehicles, which will also be, or should be mentioned in the TRO.

But that isn’t all. For the Bus Lane to be legally enforced road traffic signs must also be erected at regular minimum distances, usually blue & clearly stating which type of vehicle can use the Bus Lane.

If all these items are in place & it wouldn’t surprise me in the least if they were not, then & only then can the TRO / Bus Lane be enforced.

With regard to PH using Bus Lanes; Hackneys invariably use a taximeter which calculates the fare by a combination of time or distance, but never both at the same time (except I am reliably informed in one LA in the UK). If PH charged for sitting in traffic, then I could see your point. But they invariably don’t, giving up their time stuck in traffic to the passenger.

I have never understood that; most people that works gets paid an hourly rate. Why should a cab driver be any different?

If PH wish to give their time in traffic to the passenger, then don’t belly-ache that you should be in Bus Lanes. You already give up your time in traffic freely, so why should a little more matter?

It was the same mushes under a different name.

Reminds me of an association that said they amended the 1985 act when they weren't in existence at that time.

The NFTA were though & we have Mr Whelan & Mr Marks to thank for that.

Don, you represent Minicab 800 drivers. (Thats the ones that can understand English)

Thats it.

The PH company bosses (apart from Fred Keen) all hate you.

The Mayor has said No.

The Bus companies have said No as your drivers can't drive.

All in all, you ain't got a snowballs chance in hell.

Indeed, let the battle commence, but who's leading, you and Steve McKenzie?

Go for it, make sure you keep us updated on the progress. :D

That's just the thing, Brum, I'm not belly-aching. I'm laughing at the BH drivers belly-aching and doing their best to justify it by citing their so-called professional qualifications.

As for TRO's, I can write them so I know what you need for them to be legally enforceable.

What difference does having a taximeter make to the suitability of a vehicle to use a certain lane? Having a taxi meter in your shed doesn't make it somehow more bus like, does it? Or is it just another classic case of BH drivers thinking they should catch every break going while making sure the PH trade get nothing?

Awww, giving up already? Not like you to post one line snarky replies when you've had your arse nailed to the wall...

Did you phone GPH and ask them how the investigation against them is going?

The day I work twelve hours is the day you lose all your trendy knitwear.
