Nuclear weapons have been housed in England since they were built. My own town used to be the base for 3 of the Thor missiles in the late 50s to early 60s.
If nuclear weapons are ever used against England, do you think the fall out would stop at the Scottish border?
The Americans used to operate their SSBNs from Scotland for the same reason the RN does - Nowhere in England even comes close to being as good a location.
So, the English used to house nukes for the Americans. Big deal. I'm surprised you didn't mention the cruise missiles as well. It's just as irrelevant.
As for the fall out, that's an unfortunate side effect of having a former world power with delusions of grandeur for a neighbour, and it still beats the hell out of being a primary strike target for someone else's faded dreams of world importance.
We can't do anything about the first, but we sure as hell can about the second.
