As the AGM approaches for City Cabs, lets hope that the members vote for our current committee and keep the momentum going to make City Cabs the one and only Hackney Taxi Company to call in Scotland's Capital.

One vote, you know who to vote for.

What I can't get to grips with is how those who don't own the company vote for those who do "own" the company?

We all know that the owners who are pretendy "shareholders" will vote for the status quo, because it's not the pretendy "stakeholders" who have to pay for the consequences of the committee's actions.

That's down to the drivers. It's always the cabbniggrs who stump up. And the pretendy "shareholders" get to increase rentals and radio dues because the "happy" cabbnioggrs stump up.

And all bolstered by the council's protection racket that is restriction.

All city cabs owners are drivers whose primary income comes from driving the vehicle. does that help you understand any better?

Diesel, I think you got smacked on the head by a City Cabs owner when you were a child, and you've never recovered. #-o

Edinburgh Annual Taxi Outing 2013

The 67TH Edinburgh Taxi Trade Children’s Outing took place yesterday. This is an outing organised and funded by taxi drivers and offers a day out to the beach for children with special needs, life-limiting conditions and terminal illnesses.

The taxis are all decorated with balloons or decked out as floats. They assembled at the ice rink car park at Murrayfield Stadium where judging and presentation of prizes took place for best float taxi, best balloon taxi, best fancy dressed driver and best fancy dressed child.

The taxis then left Murrayfield at 10 o’clock heading under police escort through the city and along the coast to Yellowcraigs beach for a fun-filled afternoon before heading home about 4pm.

Organisers representative, Keith Bell said:- “A few weeks ago, Tom Gilzean’s electric wheelchair and stolen and vandalised and as Tom had fundraised for the cause over the years, they were going to donate funds to replace it.”

“However PoppyScotland stepped in to organise this, so we decided to invite Tom along for the day. He was collected from his house by our Chairman, Alex Lyons, and then when we got to Murrayfield, we surprised him with his own Rolls-Royce for the journey down to Yellowcraigs and back.”

Yesterday marked the Annual General Meeting of the Scottish Taxi Federation. In his statement about the past year in the trade, Bill Macintosh the STF General Secretary focused very much on developments at Edinburgh Airport. After Glasgow Taxis, Central Taxis & City Cabs are the two largest companies in the STF and it was clear that the committee was anxious to maintain an objective and diplomatic peace between all parties. However, as a prominent figure, campaigner and spokesman for the trade for 30 years, Mr Macintosh expressed his deep concern over the ranking of Private Hire Cars next to Taxis in a public place; having implications that may blur the distinctions between the two tiers of hire vehicles across Scotland going forward.

When the formalities of the meeting were concluded and we moved on to other agenda items, the STF General Secretary proposed a motion to the body of the hall where 17 Scottish Taxi firms were represented on the day. The motion was to provide the full support of the Scottish Taxi Federation to Central Taxis and invest a financial contribution to the legal fees involved in challenging the recent booking office license award to ECPH and their rank set up at Edinburgh Airport. There was overwhelming agreement with Mr Macintosh from the floor and great concern voiced from all of the taxi firms represented. This resulted in a unanimous vote in support of the General Secretaries motion with only one exception; one vote against the motion entered by City Cabs of Edinburgh.

The General Secretary proposed a further motion, putting a suggested figure to the contribution. Another member of the STF committee from Glasgow proposed an amendment to double that figure. The motion for the amended figure passed with a simple majority.

It is regrettable that City Cabs stood alone in opposing a motion that every other member company clearly views as fundamentally important to the future of the taxi trade in Scotland.
