http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/engl ... 776859.stm Hamilton in drink-drive campaign Hamilton (left) said he was always happy to be the designated driver Formula 1 world champion Lewis Hamilton has got behind the wheel of a London black cab to back an anti-drink-drive campaign. Hamilton teamed up with double world champion Mika Hakkinen to hail public transport drivers who get people home safely as "the real champions". They drove cabs across Tower Bridge towards City Hall where they met drivers from Transport for London. Hamilton said: "Our message is simple: never drink and drive." He added: "If you are out celebrating, use a designated driver, whether that is a taxi, bus, Tube or train driver or a friend who doesn't drink that evening. "Ever since I passed my driving test, whenever I go out with my friends I'm always happy to be the designated driver. |

I thought that it was illegal for a taxi or private hire vehicle to be driven by anyone who has not got a badge! |

I think it depends on the area you are in. You can't drive a HC/PH taxi here unless you have a badge and the relevant insurance |

![]() My cars are insured for any driver. They still need a badge from the council though. |

What happened to the "beavis and butthead" judgement then didn't that make it clear that you are not covered on the insurance without a badge ? Or has the law been changed now ? |
