Pay upfront scheme for Burnley taxis starts

FROM this week, taxi drivers in Burnley will be asking customers to pay their fares upfront.

The move is an attempt by drivers to avoid confrontation with passengers by agreeing on a fare prior to taking them to their destination.

It follows the successful introduction of a similar scheme in Pendle last year.

Mr Mohammed Arif, chairman of the borough’s Private Hire Association, said: “Not all passengers will be asked to pay up front but if you are asked, please don’t be offended.

“The scheme will provide protection for the town’s hackney and private hire firms, as well as avoiding fare disputes on arrival at the destination. Passengers ultimately choose whether to pay up front, or find an alternative, as the the paying customer.”

Cant say I'm surprised......but we all know those fares that ask a price to a certain location....which turns out to be a couple of miles shorter than where the passenger wants to be.

I ask what address in 'timbuktoo.'

They don't know that I don't know that area necessarily, but it may confirm the distance a little more.

Roughly translates to "if you're going to do a runner, be well dressed and fairly sober"

You can presumably charge what you like....unless 'timbuktoo' is within 6 miles of your general post office

According to the potential passenger making the enquiry, it probably is!!!

If the punter looks dodgy as in some areas most do then get a deposit and always make sure the deposit is adequate to cover the fare.
