Taxi driver held up at knifepoint
A TAXI driver was held at knifepoint in Newbold.
The 38-year-old driver from Joe Baxi’s Taxis was called to the Cray Estate in Milnrow to pick up a fare on Tuesday night, where a man asked to be taken to Sarah Butterworth Street.
When they got there the passenger pulled out a kitchen knife, holding it to the driver’s throat and forcing him out of the taxi.
The vehicle, a silver Audi A4, was later found abandoned in Laythe Barn Close on the Cray Estate.
The driver’s colleague, Zafaraz Khan, said: "I don’t think he will be back at work for a few weeks, he’s panicking and shocked.
"You could see last night after the incident he was very nervous, he wasn’t even talking properly. Things like this always happen.
"I’m a bit nervous and shocked, but I’m OK – it’s just part of the job that we have to live with."
The thief is described as white, slim, aged 25 to 30. He is about 5ft 8in with short brown hair and was wearing a grey jacket and jeans.
