Hi all my grandad was a taxi driver in sheffield for 50 years...and unfortunately he passed away earlier this year...i am on here trying to trace his old black cabs...reg numbers a272 tgb and e452 vnb..if any body has any ideas on how to track these cabs or any information this would be much appreciated as they have a lot of sentimental value.

thanks
danny

You may be able to start with DVLA. They may be able to tell you if they're still on the road. They won't give you address details, though.

If, however, you're friendly with a plod, local council or similar, they may be able to get contact details through the back-door!!

Commiserations on your loss.

Have you checked the insurance validation service, or whatever it's called, to see if they are still insured by someone? :?

ASKMID have no insurance records for either of them.
http://www.askmid.com/

Anyone know the site for road tax / mot checking?

Basically taxis operating in Blackpool are not renown for their quality, thus it wouldn't be a massive surprise if the very old cabs you are searching for were still working there.

But I doubt they are.

well thankyou for your input, but your view on their quality and wereabouts dont seem to be much help..and i dont see why you think an e reg cab wouldnt still be operating as their are plenty of cabs that age in and around sheffield. Thanks but no thanks

cheers for the links...im unable to find any information through any of these links...my original plan was to track down maybe the e reg cab and get it back on the streets of sheffield....maybe more difficult than i thought to track down!

i understand the reasons for cabbies having to use the newer cabs...but i know my grandad and and people from his era would agree that you cant beat a "proper" cab
