Council calls for views on taxi services

ARE there enough taxis in Rugby and are they available when you want them?

These are just two of the questions the borough council would like members of the public to answer in a review of all its policies and conditions relating to the licensing of taxis.

Licensing officers are consulting with public, trade, police, businesses and councillors on proposals which include policies relating to both hackney carriages and private hire vehicles.

The proposals consider removing the limit on the number of Hackney carriages in the borough, licensing drivers to drive both hackney carriages and private hire vehicles and delegating licensing decisions to officers.

Cllr. Heather Timms, Portfolio Holder for the Sustainable Environment, said "The consultation is a good opportunity for everyone involved in the taxi trade, from drivers and company bosses to taxi-users, to let us know what they think about transport in Rugby, and the proposed changes.

"We want people to tell us whether they think there are enough taxis in Rugby and to let us know wherether there are enough available at the right times of day too.

"It has been a long time since we have conducted a review of taxis in the borough and we want to make sure our poloicies - and the area's taxi ranks - are suitable for the 21st Century."

The new proposals along with the consulation document are available
online at http://www.rugby.gov.uk/taxiconsultation.

The documents are also available to read at the Customer Advice Centre in the Town Hall in Evreux Way and at the Museum and Art Gallery in Little Elborow Street.

The consultation period will run until Friday, February 27.
