An Asian driver has just started on his own in Galashiels, he used to run a local sub post office but was recently robed and beaten up.
I just hope no pun intended that the rest of his family and his extended 20 time over one, dont get the same idea, as there is absolutely no more room for cabs to rank, there are now 138 cabs with 16 places in Galashiels
The council dont give a dam all they want is the money

But they don't make any money out of licensing. That would be against the law.

And I suspect Skip would be amongst the first to quote them the wrong courst case

That aside, I'm certain skip, being a free marketeer that he is, will welcome these chaps with open arms.

If things are as bad as you say they are, they won't earn enough to bother the tax and VAT man.

More like the mafia, with the 3 large companies trying to rule the roost.

I just ignore them and just get on with it, some if not all 3 will fall by the way side as they have done over the years.
There have been some in the past who have started up and put loads of cabs on only to end up down the pan

I was asked today by a couple of independant owner drivers why I don't put drivers in my cars and put them out on the rank. My reply was simple. There isn't enough work on the streets now, so if I put my cars out as well they would just upset everyone else. I can't see the point in sitting all day on a rank for about £20 worth of fares, and that would be a good day by all accounts.

NO, I was just pointing out a fact
He is the first Asian ever in the Borders to take up driving taxis and good luck to him even though there have been a few snide remarks from the public

Did no one explain to you that taxis are not supposed to spend their lives parked on ranks?

Oh I know that they are like social clubs, where you can whinge to your heart's content, where you can pretend that you're a businessman and wax lyrical about the ills of the world and how you're being put upon.

But if you're bumping your gums on this council owned parking space, you're not doing your job. You're not a real cabbie.

Round the corner there is a hand wanting to go up. Someone who wants a cab.

And they can't get one because you don't want to be got.

I suggest that you spend your time talking to customers, not psychopaths posing as cabbies.
