Nurseries transporting children urged to get right documentation

THE Stormont Environment Minister Sammy Wilson has urged day care nurseries to apply for an exemption from taxi licensing rules.

The temporary exemption scheme allows all registered providers who use cars and people carriers to transport children to and front child care services without having a PSV licence.

The scheme was introduced in September as a short term solution, while a longer term review of courtesy transport is carried out.

All day care providers which transport children must now hold either a PSV licence or a valid Driver Vehicle Agency exemption certificate , even if they do not directly charge for transporting children.

Applications for the exemption certificate can be made free of charge through the Driver Vehicle Agency.

For more information, contact the DVA on 028 9025 4171.
