Woman assaulted after PH ride

A 19-year-old woman who was visiting the UK from America, has been subjected to a serious sexual assault after being bundled into a taxi in Bedfordshire.

The woman was outside the Edge Club in Park Road, Luton, early on Wednesday when she was dragged into a private hire vehicle by a man in the back.

A police spokesman said she was then taken to a house in a street the victim thought was called Beech or Birch Road.

She was sexually assaulted before she was able to leave.

After the assault, the woman phoned for a taxi to take her back to her friend's house.

The man who assaulted her is described as white, aged in his 20s, 6ft (1.8m) with light brown short-cropped hair.

Det Sgt Steve Facer, of Luton CID, appealed for both taxi drivers to come forward.

He said: "I would hope that both taxi drivers remember picking up these fares in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

"The first driver who stopped in Park Road may not have known that the woman he picked up did not know his passenger or that she was about to become a victim of crime."
